RESURRECTON SUNDAY

I. Jesus is alive
A. 1 Cor 15:3-6 – Jesus appeared to more than 500 of his followers.
B. Luke 24:39 – Jesus even asked for food and ate in their presence. He is not a ghost but is alive
physically.
C. John 20:19-20; 26-31

II. What is the significance of Jesus’ resurrection?

1. The resurrection of Jesus Christ means that believers are justified before God.
He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification. (Romans 4:25)

2. The resurrection of Jesus Christ shows that Jesus defeated death.

Death is the enemy of mankind and the just punishment for our sin (Romans 6:23). The mortality rate is and will
always be 100%. Now that Christ has risen, we should not fear death because Jesus overcame even death itself.

3. The resurrection of Jesus Christ confirms the truth of Scripture.

Isaiah 53 is among the many examples of Old Testament Scriptures that prophesied about the resurrection of
Jesus

4. The resurrection of Jesus Christ proves that Jesus is the Son of God.
Jesus’ unique claims about Himself wouldn’t matter if He remained in the grave. In fact He’d be like the millions
who went before Him and the millions who came after. But Jesus Christ did rise from the dead and His
resurrection proves His unique status as the Son of God.

…[Christ] was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from
the dead. (Romans 1:4)
5. The resurrection of Jesus Christ means that God the Father will give His Holy Spirit to believers.
Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the
Holy Spirit, He has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing.  (Acts 2:33)

After Christ had risen and ascended, He sent the promised Holy Spirit to continue His work on earth. This means
that Christ’s earthly ministry continues today through His people, in whom He dwells by the Holy Spirit. This also
means that Christ will help His people by the Spirit, strengthening them, convicting them, guiding them into the
life that God desires.
6. The resurrection of Jesus Christ gives Christians a living hope.
Future Resurrection
First, it assures our future resurrection. Because Jesus both died and rose again, we will be raised like Him. 1
Corinthians 15:20
The one who made a promise about John 3:16 is not dead, He is alive.
After all the difficulties that we have suffered here on earth, we have hope of a life together with Jesus.

III. What should we do?

1. Believe that He rose from death.
- Romans 10:9
- John 20:26-29
2. Be glad!
- John 20:20
- Luke 24:41; 52
Since we are glad, we can celebrate. But not according to this world’s ways. During celebrations, (birthday
party) we should focus on the one being celebrated.
3. Spread the news.
- John 20:21 – “as the Father sent me, so I send you” (to bring the message of forgiveness and
salvation)
- The disciples, upon knowing that Jesus is alive, were filled with great joy that they began to tell this
news to their fellow believers.
- Now, Jesus instructed them (then us) to become His witnesses. We are to spread the Good news of
what Jesus has done on the cross. Do not forget, “WE ARE SAVED THROUGH FAITH BECAUSE JESUS
DIED AND ROSE AGAIN!!!”
