HISTORY.

1JHON:
At the end of the 16th century, the African slave trade
began; The Spanish crown was allowed in the territory to
supply indigenous labor in a clear demographic decline.
1CAMILO:
They were brought from various parts of the African
continent and arrived at the main port in all of South
America at the time, Cartagena de Indias.
2JHON:
The African population grew exponentially with the
transatlantic trade in 1851, benefiting only its
slaveholders, but it was the beginning of a repopulation
that today represents nine percent of the total
population, with 9.6 million Afro-Colombian inhabitants.
in a population of 51 million inhabitants.

2CAMILO:
San Basilio de Palenque is recognized as the first Afro-
Colombian town, founded between 1570 and 1580 by
runaway slaves, and they spread the word that there was a
place where blacks were not slaves.
Women were sent to infiltrate slave farms with the detailed
map of this place in braids, to help the other slaves escape.

3JHON:
In the Political Constitution of Colombia of 1991, Afro-
Colombian communities were recognized as a people -
with a set of collective rights- that is part of the ethnic
and cultural diversity of the Nation, constitutionally
recognized for the first time.

3CAMILO:
Before this, this community was discriminated against,
isolated from society, and treated like slaves in the modern
era. It was considered that they could not have important
positions in companies, which only served for the service
and cleaning sectors.
4JHON:
We will show you a video of a Colombian activist
explaining the issue. I like her social work, and the
message she transmits since she is also dedicated to the
defense of human rights in Colombia.
