NEWS | CBA DRAGONS HAILED AS THE CHAMPION OF MEN'S LAWN TENNIS IN THIS YEAR'S PALARO,

CECT TIGER SHARKS, SECOND

CBA Dragons triumphantly took the crown as the overall champion of Men's Lawn Tennis as
they did not leave a single battle ground lost both in Single and Doubles Division in this year's
Palaro held two consecutive days and ended today, March 23, 2023 at NETA, Cabanatuan City.

CBA Dragons faced the CECT Tiger Sharks in both final games of singles and doubles that
ended 8-1, 8-0. The Dragons dominated the match, with their skill and teamwork paying off in
the end.

In singles, CECT scored 0-15-0-40-15-15-0. In doubles, they scored 0-0-15-15-60-30-15-30-15.

CECT's impressive performance allowed them to take the match, with their victories in both
singles and doubles proving their dominance.

Christian Andrew Tiongson Mendoza of CBA, 3rd year Marketing student, Champion of Lawn
Tennis Singles, played with an injured knee prior to the Elimination Round. However, he
counted it as the biggest factor that contributed to his success as he still enjoyed the game.

"Injured po ako, pero tinuloy ko pa rin," he said.

Meanwhile, Vinceson E. Marañon and Kim Irvin Gaspar, a third and a first year at CBA, won
the Doubles Division Championship. They said the biggest factor in their success win was their
"tandem and communication."

The Dragons stated that their daily training and prayer was their main preparation. "Training lang
at Dasal," the tandem said.

According to Mendoza, his toughest opponent was the CECT Tiger Sharks, the overall second-
placed team in this year's Palaro.

Jeush Danel Sarangaya, 4th year student, represents CECT Tiger Sharks in the Single Division,
placing second during the final game.

"Sipagan lang sa training, [at]makinig sa mga turo ni coach" was his main preparation during the
training season.

Randall James Umali and Sean Gonzales placed second in the CECT in Doubles and contributed
to the department's overall place.

The coaches of Lawn Tennis Mens from both departments beam with pride as they fully support
the players all the way through each game.

"Lahat nung mga training and hardworks, nagppay off naman ngayon. Partnership ng players and
coaches, parehas willing, meron kaming isang goal and yun is yung mag enjoy lang talaga. At
the same time mag bigay kami ng karangalan sa department namin," Ma'am Mercy Escudero,
one of the CBA coaches, told in her interview.

The coach of CECT Lawn Tennis, in the meantime, is proud that despite setbacks and
discouragements, and knowing that their team was less strong than their opponent, they fought
until the end to rise to second place.

"Gawin nila yung best nila, [at] okay na kami don sa performance na ginawa nila, atleast nag-
enjoy naman sila," he said. Coach Dan also acknowledged that some of his players' experiences
made a significant contribution to their win.

All of the players on both teams are grateful for the support of students, fans, coaches and
departments.
