AIM:
Design of Circular Waveguide using CAD

OBJECTVIES:

• Design X band Circular Waveguide in HFSS.

• Observe modes and their corresponding cut-off frequencies
• Observe the S21 graph and comment

APPARATUS REQUIRED:
HFSS (High Frequency Simulation Software)
(HFSS is based on FEM - Finite Element Method)

THEORY:

𝑅𝑎𝑑𝑖𝑢𝑠 𝑟 = 13.85 𝑐𝑚
𝐿𝑒𝑛𝑔𝑡ℎ 𝑑 = 50 𝑚𝑚 (𝑑 > 𝜆 = 40 𝑚𝑚)
𝐹𝑟𝑒𝑞𝑢𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑦 𝑓 = 8.0 − 9.7 𝐺𝐻𝑧
𝑂𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝐹𝑟𝑒𝑞𝑢𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑦 𝑓𝑜 = 8.5 𝐺𝐻𝑧 (𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝐻𝐹𝑆𝑆)

For TE & TM Modes

𝑝′ 𝑚𝑛 ∗ 𝑐
𝑓𝑐 (𝑇𝐸) =
2𝜋𝑎 √𝜀𝑟

𝑝𝑚𝑛 ∗ 𝑐
𝑓𝑐 (𝑇𝑀) =
2𝜋𝑎 √𝜀𝑟

PROCEDURE:

1. Check the Waveguide number.

2. Take dimensions of waveguide accordingly.
3. Build the waveguide on HFSS
4. Animate the waveguide for various modes.
5. Plot the graph and note down the cut-off frequency.
6. Do Theoretical Calculation and verify the frequency.

CONCLUSION:

1. HFSS can be used for creating circular waveguides and test them at high frequencies.
2. The modes of the waveguide were observed, and their corresponding cutoff frequencies were
determined.
3. The S21 graph of the waveguide was analyzed to understand its transmission characteristics.
4. This will provide valuable insights into the behavior of circular waveguides and their applications
in X band communication systems.
