In this posting, the author contends that a literature review is a larger piece of written work that
is usually conducted after choosing a topic. In fact, critical analysis that is combined with
extensive reading will assist in refining the topic and framing the research questions. More
specifically, I do agree with the explanation in this posting that the review must include critical
evaluation to establish familiarity and ensure comprehension with the chosen topic. Tappen
(2015) explains that a good review written after establishing a solid foundation on the topic can
give a new interpretation while tracing the intellectual progression on the research question.
However, depending on the topic, a review can pose numerous challenges. For instance, wide
topics like mental illness can involve evaluation of several sources that and therefore limit the
cohesion to a research question. Nonetheless, the author recommends that is relevant to
summarize, synthesize and critique the sources when discussing a topic such as mental illness.

This posting has established the complexity of writing a literature review. That mentioned, the
author agrees that the review must be a comprehensive overview of the previously published
work on a particular topic. Actually, as Dewsbury& Brame (2019) mentions, the review must
depend on numerous scholarly articles that will give the researcher and the audience a general
image of the trends on the topic in question. But, since an outstanding review relies on the
amount of information obtained by the researcher, one of the major challenges will be the
amount of time allocated before submitting the review and the number of articles evaluated.
Nonetheless, existing resources and clarification from authorities in the field can support to make
outstanding literature reviews.
