Personal Statement

My name is Alyan Babar Alam. I was born on 25 th October 2003. I completed matriculation from Beacon
House School System (Boys) Bahawalpur in 2020 securing 779 out of 1100. I completed my intermediate
from Concordia College for Boys Bahawalpur in 2022 securing 817 out of 1100. After that I deeply
analyzed the local job market and realized that local job market is saturated with local graduates and I
must get higher education in my field to get superior position in national or multinational companies
operating in Pakistan. I discussed with my parents about my future career path and convinced her that I
want to pursue education in IT field from abroad. They appreciated my decision and assured me of every
support.

Information Technology has always fascinated me and has been a goal of mine since my school
days. Therefore, I plan to pursue a bachelor's degree in information technology. I want to work
as an IT professional in an IT firm and this course is suitable for me. This course will give me
the chance to develop fundamental lifelong learning skills as well as generic, transferrable
abilities like critical thinking and problem-solving. The earning potential of an IT professional
has improved so far in Pakistan due to the high demand and expanding IT sector. Moreover, in
the technological age, pursuing a bachelor’s in information technology provides limitless
opportunities to learn new things and remain up to date.

Only a few universities in Pakistan provide high-quality education, but those that do are congested,
including LUMS and NUST. It is extremely difficult to get accepted because of their high standards and
the little number of seats. The greatest issue in Pakistan’s educational policy that has never been
addressed is the lack of quality education and practical knowledge. There are only two universities in
Pakistan that are among the top 100 in Asia. In Pakistan, foreign-trained individuals are given preference
over indigenous graduates above all else. After researching and speaking with a variety of alumni and
subject-matter experts, I concluded that Pakistani educational institutions are not on an equal footing with
international academic frameworks, so I decided to pursue my further education at a foreign university.

I had a variety of options for where to study abroad, which made it difficult for me to choose. I made
comprehensive research and earned that there are significant differences in each nation's policies for
international students. I was attracted to the USA but after doing research I came to know about the recent
tragic racial incidents in the USA which scared me. Tuition fee and cost of living is also expensive in the
USA. Moreover, the duration of a bachelor’s degree in the USA is four years while in Australia it is of
three years. The cost of education in the UK is sky-high. These are the reasons which prohibited me to go
for USA and UK. Due to the language barrier, I did not think of Germany as a potential future travel
destination. After doing comprehensive research, I find out Australia is a perfect fit for me, in all respects.

I have chosen Australia as my study destination, as Australia is establishing benchmarks for excellence in
education around the world with 6 universities in Australia ranked in the top 100 world-renowned
universities. Leading educational institutions, first-rate training facilities, great professors, and
comprehensive student support services are all part of Australia's education sector. The education system
of Australia has a good international reputation and graduates from Australian universities are in high
demand. The government strictly controls this system to uphold the nation's reputation for high-quality
education. Another reason for choosing Australia is that the rights of overseas students studying in
Australia are mandated by legislation under the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS ACT)
framework in Australia. Australia is regarded as the 8th most livable nation in the world by the UN's
Human Development Index, whereas the United Kingdom and the United States are ranked 13 th and 17th,
respectively. All these aspects contributed in making my decision to go to Australia.
I have searched and compared many Australian universities like: Macquarie University, Queensland
University of Technology and University of Wollongong based on QS university ranking and tuition fees.
Macquarie University is offering Bachelor of Information Technology program in AUD 120,600. The
total tuition fee of Queensland University of Technology for the Bachelor of Information Technology is
AUD 111,300 while University of Wollongong is offering the same course in AUD 85,363. I have also
been awarded 20% scholarship which makes my tuition fee more affordable. I have selected University of
Wollongong due to many attractions like: The Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching has ranked
UOW as the number 1 university in New South Wales. UOW is globally ranked among the top 200
universities in the world according to QS World University ranking 2023 and Aggregate Ranking of Top
Universities (ARTU) 2022. UOW is also globally ranked among the world’s best 20 modern universities
(QS Top 50 under 50 rankings 2021). It is rated as a five-star university (QS World University Rankings
2021). Wollongong is an ideal place to study with lesser living costs as compared to the cities like Sydney
and Melbourne.

I have to complete 144 credit points for the completion of my bachelor’s degree out of which 90 credit
points will be of core subjects. The duration of my intended degree is 3 years. During Bachelor of
Information Technology, I will study subjects like: Fundamental Programming with Python, Computing
and Cyber Security Fundamentals, System Analysis, Data management and Security, Object Oriented
Design and Programming, Network and Communications, Introduction to Web Technology.

After the completion of my degree, I will be able to identify solutions by analyzing complicated
computing problems and using the principles of computing and other pertinent disciplines. I will be able
to communicate well in a range of professional settings. I will be able to recognize my professional
obligations and make decisions in computing practice on moral and legal standards. I will effectively lead
and participate in a team performing tasks relevant to the discipline of the program.

In the modern world, there is almost no better choice for a fast paced learner than a technologically-based
major such as Information Technology. In 21st century Information Technology plays a more vital role in
our lives than ever before. As I look around myself I observe numerous devices that were designed and
controlled from IT. This fills me with a desire to be a part of this great profession of IT.

Pakistan today is moving from orthodox and conventional methods to inter-connected networking. Punjab
Metro Authority, Safe City Authority, E-challan, Online Banking, liaison between public private
partnerships, Social media campaigns, online transport system including (Careem, Uber, And Albayarak),
NADRA, Passport offices, Integrated Management system, and even Prime minister online citizen portal
cell need privacy and proper networking during their smooth running. Meanwhile being a developing
country we lack in number of IT professionals, network designers, network administrators and cyber
security specialists in the market. Moreover, government of Pakistan is digitalizing its departments and
hence sensitive government websites and networks require network administrator/designers and IT
consultants and current professionals of this field are unable to meet manpower requirements of this field.

After completing my proposed degree, I will come back to Pakistan to avail existing and emerging
opportunities in the private and government sectors. I can start working as an IT Consultant, Network
Administrator, Computer Programmer or System Analyst in top companies of Pakistan like: Folio3,
Macrosoft, Systems Limited, KalSoft, Teradata, Techlogix, Q-Soft Technologies, NETSOL, I2C, TRG
Pakistan etc. I believe the international qualification, exposure, and the experiences which I will achieve
from an Australian education provider will multiply the chances of starting my professional IT career at
one of those IT companies in Pakistan and getting paid well, as the multinational companies here are
always looking for internationally qualified candidates. I will easily earn 1200 AUD per month in my
homeland with an Australian Degree, but if I compare it to the Domestic Degree, I can just earn 400 to
500 AUD.
As far as my immigration history is concerned, I have no visa rejections of any sort or travel bans, never
had any character misconduct of any kind. I am single and will travel to Australia alone. None of my
family members live in Australia.

I have selected a self-catered single studio in Bangalay House located at Northfields Avenue,
Gwynneville. It will cost me $320/week. This accommodation has all the facilities that a student needs
and I hope I will enjoy my stay there.

I have studied a lot regarding my stay in Australia. I am well aware of the rules and regulations imposed
by Australian government like: I will have to inform my education provider once I arrive in Australia
within seven days, I will have to maintain adequate health arrangements, I will have to maintain
attendance at university, I am not allowed to work more than 40 hours per fortnight, I will not indulge in
any illegal activity and harm Australian community, I must have to remain enrolled in a registered course,
I must not change my course without approval of department and I must continue to satisfy the
requirements for grant of my student visa. I am the one who believe that rules are made for good
humanity purposes. So, I will abide by all rules and regulations during my stay in Australia like I’m doing
in my country.

I belong to well established family. I have two sisters and I am the only son of my parents. My father is
well settled in Pakistan and he will be responsible for all my expenses during my stay in Australia. He is a
government employee and works as Municipal Officer at Municipal Committee Mianwali. He is also
owner of residential properties of worth PKR 480 million. His annual income is PKR 7.6 million. He has
sufficient income and savings to support my studies in Australia. I am a family-oriented person and I
want to live and settle with my family in Pakistan. I have strong social and financial ties to my homeland
Pakistan. After the completion of my proposed degree, I will be back and I have to be back because there
are several reasons that I have to be back. Being the only son, it is one of my duties to support my parents,
guide my sisters and help them in every aspect of life by residing with them. Moreover, I will have a
bright future in Pakistan.
