Personal Health Monitoring through Mobile Technologies: A Study of Effectiveness

ABSTRACT
Personal health monitoring through mobile technologies has become increasingly popular

in recent years. The aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of personal health

monitoring using mobile technologies in improving health outcomes. A systematic review

of the literature was conducted to identify relevant studies published between 2010 and

2022. Studies that met the inclusion criteria were analyzed for their effectiveness in

improving health outcomes, including physical activity, weight loss, blood pressure,

glucose control, and other health markers. The results indicate that personal health

monitoring through mobile technologies can lead to improved health outcomes in a

variety of areas. However, the effectiveness of mobile health monitoring varies

depending on the type of mobile technology used, the target population, and the duration

of the intervention. Further research is needed to determine the optimal strategies for

using mobile technologies for personal health monitoring, as well as the long-term effects

of these interventions on health outcomes. Overall, this study highlights the potential of

mobile technologies to improve health outcomes and provides insight into the

effectiveness of these technologies in promoting personal health monitoring.

INTRODUCTION
In recent years, the use of mobile technologies for personal health monitoring has gained

significant attention from both researchers and consumers. Individuals may now check

their health state in real-time and take charge of their well-being thanks to the rising

availability of smartphones and wearable devices. This trend has resulted in an explosion

of health and wellness apps that allow users to track their physical activity, sleep habits,

nutrition, and other health-related data.

Despite their popularity, there is little research on their usefulness in encouraging healthy

behavior and improving health outcomes. As a result, the purpose of this study work is to

explore the efficacy of personal health monitoring via mobile technology. This study will

look specifically at the association between using mobile devices for health monitoring

and behavioral outcomes like physical activity, healthy eating, and sleep quality.

The study will employ a quantitative research design, involving a survey 60 respondents

from the Barangay Baliti City of San Fernando Pampanga to the adults who want to

monitor their health and individuals who already use mobile technologies to track and

monitor their health. The survey will include questions on the types of health monitoring

technologies used, frequency of use, and perceived effectiveness. Data analysis will

involve descriptive statistics and inferential analysis to examine the relationship between

mobile health monitoring and behavioral outcomes.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The term "personal health monitoring with mobile technologies" describes the process of

tracking and controlling one's health and fitness data using mobile devices, such as

smartphones and devices. This has become increasingly popular in recent years due to the

widespread use of mobile devices and the availability of various health and fitness

applications. Examining the effects of using these technologies on outcomes for health

and fitness is the goal of a study on effectiveness of personal health monitoring through

mobile technologies This may involve things like increased levels of physical activity,

better nutrition, weight control, and general improvements in health and wellbeing. The

study may also examine the usability and user satisfaction of these technologies, as well

as any potential obstacles or constraints.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES
To objectively evaluate the effectiveness of personal health monitoring through mobile

technologies through systematic review and meta-analysis (examination of data from the

number of independent studies of the same subject) of reviewed studies, with a focus on

determining the impact of mobile health interventions on health outcomes, self-

monitoring, and patient satisfaction.

OBJECTIVES

 To determine how frequently health monitoring is used.

 To know the reliability of the health monitoring technology

 To investigate the effectiveness of mobile health technologies in improving

health outcomes in individuals

 To determine if mobile technology can help to improve health.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Mobile health interventions may have a positive impact on health-care delivery

processes. The goal of this study was to conduct a systematic review of randomized

controlled trials of mobile technology interventions to improve health care delivery

processes. The features of mobile technologies that may make them particularly

appropriate for improving health care service delivery processes relate to their popularity,

their mobility, and their technological capabilities. (Free, Caroline, et al., 2013)

Is a research project that will most likely focus on the use of mobile health technologies,

such as smartphone apps or wearable devices, to increase physical activity levels in

adolescent populations. The authors of this study most likely aimed to identify and

summarize existing research on the use of mobile health technologies for increasing

physical activity in adolescents, as well as to assess the evidence for the efficacy and

effectiveness of these technologies. (Lee, Alexandra M, et al., 2019)

People can schedule appointments, call around the world, and pay their taxes all from

devices that fit in the palm of their hand. The pervasiveness of mobile computing gives

the opportunity to revolutionize the way people monitor their personal health, changing

the paradigm from calculating one’s own progress for personal monitoring to having

automatic computation enriched with timely feedback. (Connelly, K., Faber, A., Rogers,

Y., Siek, K., Toscos, T., Connelly, K., Siek, K., & Toscos, T. 2006)

MHealth(Mobile Health) apps are rapidly changing the landscape of healthcare delivery.

Thousands of healthcare apps are available online which attempt to push for

improvements in the current state of healthcare. However, the adoption and diffusion of

these apps is an issue that the literature is trying to address. (Ali Balapour, Iris Reychav,

Rajiv Sabherwal, Joseph Azuri. 2019)

Due to the widespread availability and low cost of smartphones, mobile apps have

become the most popular trend. Wearable sensors and AI (artificial intelligence)

techniques are used in the majority of smartphone-based trials to gather and analyze a

variety of vital indicators on phones and provide consumers with valuable data or

recommendations. (Pari Delir Haghigi, Frada Burstein 2022)

Mobile phones are becoming increasingly important in everyday life and now in

healthcare. There has been a steady growth of information and communication

technologies in health communication and technology is used progressively in

telemedicine, wireless monitoring of health outcomes in disease and in the delivery of

health interventions. In the upcoming years, mobile phones' use as a tool to promote

improved communication between nurses and patients will certainly increase. (Holly

Blake 2008)

The monitoring system enables a person to closely monitor changes in their vital signs

and to give feedback, both of which contribute to maintaining a high level of health. In

many situations, including hospitals and nursing homes, there is considerable interest in

adopting wireless technologies for in-patient monitoring. Even when patients are not

physically present at the hospital, better treatments are provided because to wireless

technology. (Anitha Karthi, Rajkamal Rajendran, Poomanirajan Mathiarasan. 2017)

We can better understand environmental exposures by following participants in

environmental epidemiological studies using cutting-edge mobile phone technologies.

These technologies can provide useful information on location and physical activity. This

article's goal was to evaluate how well one of the most affordable mobile phones on the

market tracked users' travel and activity patterns. (David Donaire-Gonzalez, 2016)
