SIMPLE PAST WITH IRREGULAR VERBS


Definition: Irregular verbs doesn’t follow a pattern or normal rules for conjugation, they
have different forms, sometimes can have the same form: cut, cut, read, read:

Example: She cut the paper into pieces yesterday in her room.
I read a mystery book last weekend.

IRREGULAR Simple present forms Simple past


TRANSLATION VERB
Ser -Estar Be Am: soy – estoy ( I ) Was: era- estaba ( I ) - ( he )
Are: son – están (you – we - they ( she) - (it )
Is: es – está ( he – she – it ) Were: eran – estaban ( you ) –

NEGATIVE FORMS:

1- Passengers were at the airport to take the plane on time.
2- We weren’t on vacation time, we were working all the time
3- Were your parents at home last Saturday? No they weren’t. They were at the cinema
4- Where were you last summer? I was visiting some friends

5- My sister was at the mall yesterday morning.


6- He wasn´t at the university, he was at the park with friends.
7- Was the profesor explaining the lesson? Yes, he was. He was explaining to all the students in class
8- How was your last party at Susan’s house? It was great, the music and the food were excellent

1-Greg and Annie Peterson left Miami one summer weekend on their annual sailing
2-vacation in their boat Seas palace. They wanted to sail around the Caribbean Sea for
3-two weeks. During their vacation, they saw a large group of whales.
4- Greg and Annie were very happy. Unfortunately, while they were watching them, the
5-whales began to hit the side of the boat. Suddenly, water started flooding in and they
6-realized that they were in trouble. They quickly jumped into the lifeboat while the boat
7-was sinking and watched it dissapear under the sea. Fortunately, they had enough food
8-and water for twenty days.
9-They also had a fishing line and a machine which made salt water into drinking water.
10-These two things helped them to survive during their terrible experience.
11-For the next fifty days they caught about 10 fish a day and ate them raw. They saw
12-about twenty ships, but although they waved and shouted while they were passing by,
13-nobody saw them.
14-They were becoming weaker and weaker. Then, just as they were beginning to lose
15-hope, a fishing boat rescued them. Their terrible vacation was over.
