REVISION WORKSHEET – 4 (2023-24)
CLASS – XI
SUBJECT- PHYSICS
TOPIC- UNITS AND MEASUREMENTS, MOTION IN A STRAIGHT LINE

General Instructions:
1. This revision worksheet has four sections: Section A, Section B, Section C and Section D.
2. Section A contains four multiple choice type questions and three assertion reason-based
questions of 1 mark each, Section B contains four short answer type I questions of 2 marks
each, Section C contains three short answer type II questions of 5 marks each and Section D
contains two long answer type question of 5 marks.

Section A
1. A force F is given by F = at +bt2, where t is time. What are the dimensions of a and b?
−3
(a) MLT and ML T 2 −4 (b) MLT−3 and MLT−4 (c) MLT−1 and MLT0 (d) MLT−4 and MLT
2. If the units of force, energy and velocity are 10 N, 100 J and 5 ms–1, the units of length, mass
and time will be
(a)10m, 5kg, 1s (b) 10m, 4kg, 2s (c) 10m, 4kg, 0.5s (d) 20m, 5kg, 2s.
3. A particle starts its motion from rest under the action of a constant force. If the distance
covered in first 10 seconds is S1 and that covered in the first 20 seconds is S2, then:
(a) S2=S1 (b) S2=2S1 (c) S2 =3S1 (d) S2=4S1
2 4
4. The displacement of a particle is y = a + bt + ct + dt . The initial velocity and initial
acceleration of the particle are:
(a) a and b (b) b and c (c) c and d (d) b and 2c
For question number 5 to 7, a statement of assertion is followed by a statement of reason.
Select the correct answer to the question from the codes (a), (b), (c) and (d) as given
below.
(a) Both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion.
(b) Both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of
assertion.
(c) Assertion is true but reason is false.
(d) Assertion is false and reason is also false.
5. Assertion: ‘Light year’ and ‘Wavelength’ both measure distance.
Reason: Both have dimensions of time.
6. Assertion: A body may be accelerated even when it is moving uniformly.
Reason: When direction of motion of the body is changing then body may have acceleration.
7. Assertion: Position-time graph of a body moving uniformly in a straight line parallel to
position axis represents that the body is at rest.
Reason: The slope of position-time graph in a uniform motion gives the velocity of an object.

Section B
8. If the time period (T) of vibration of a liquid drop depends on surface tension (S), radius (r) of
the drop and density (ρ) of the liquid, then using dimension method obtain the expression of
T.
9. Draw position time graph for two objects having same speed but opposite direction of
motion.
10. If the velocity of light (c), gravitational constant (G) and Planck's constant (h) are chosen as
fundamental units then find the dimensions of mass in new system.
11. Which of the following measurements is more accurate and why?
(a) 0.0002 g (b) 20.0 g
Section C
12. Draw the following graphs for an object projected upward with a velocity v0, which comes
back to the same point after some time:
(i) acceleration versus time graph
(ii) speed versus time graph
(iii) velocity versus time graph
13. (a) Round off 12.635 up to 3 digits.
(b) State the no. of significant figures in (i) 2.000 (ii) 0.050
(c) Add 1.300 kg, 10.24g, 15.17g
(d) Solve: 4.234 x 1.005 x 2.01 = ?
14. Calculate the retardation of a motorcycle travelling at a speed of 80 m/s which is stopped by
applying brakes. Distance travelled by the motorcycle before being stopped is 100 m. Also
calculate the time required by the motorcycle to get stopped.
15. Convert 100 J into a new system of unit in which unit of mass is 10 kg, unit of length is 20 m
and unit of time is minute.
16. Find dimensions of z if
(i) Z = (pressure x universal gravitational constant) / (angular momentum x torque)
(ii) Z = coefficient of viscosity2 x Planck’s constant / (gravitational acceleration )1/2
(iii) Z = ak sin (wt – kx); where z is displacement of a wave at time t and position x and w is
angular frequency of wave.

Section D
17. Derive equations of uniformly accelerated motion by
(i) calculus method (ii) graphical method

18. Figure given shows the variation of velocity of a particle with time
Find the following :
(i) Displacement during the time intervals
(a) 0 to 2 sec, (b) 2 to 4 sec. and (c) 4 to 7 sec.
(ii) Accelerations at –
