Mathematics 5 Performance Standard

Quarter 3 Week 1-2  learner is able to apply percent in mathematical
problems and real-life situations.

Instruction/Situation

Almost every time adults go shopping, they will find items that are on sale.
These items have been marked down a certain percent. Everyone has to pay sales
tax when they purchase items.

This project will help you to see some applications of percent in everyday life.

 To find the original price of an item given sales price and percent discount.
 To find the sales price of an item given the original price and percent
discount.
 To find the percent discount of an item given the original price and sales
price.

Directions: The learner will find at least five (5) items that are on sale from an
advertisement in the newspapers or magazines. The advertisements can only have
two of the following: original price, sale price, or percent of savings. It cannot have
all three.

The learner will create a booklet or brochure containing the following

information: a cover sheet, project summary, documentation of the advertisement,
and a balance sheet.
