SUBCLASS MONOCOTYLEDONAE

A flowering plant that has a single cotyledon (seed leaf) in its embryo.
Monocotyledons are the smaller of the two major groups of flowering plants. They typically
have long, stalkless leaves with parallel veins (grasses, lilies, and palms, for example).
