A tRNA is made from a single strand of RNA (just like an mRNA is).

However, the strand takes on a complex 3D structure

because base pairs form between nucleotides in different parts of the molecule. This makes double-stranded regions and loops,
folding the tRNA into an L shape. tRNAs bring their amino acids to the mRNA in a specific order. This order is determined by
the attraction between a codon, a sequence of three nucleotides on the mRNA, and a complementary nucleotide triplet on the
tRNA, called an anticodon. This anticodon also specifies the particular amino acid that the tRNA carries.

Reasons why tRNA is more functional than the long double-helix model of DNA or the single strand of mRNA:
• Because they fit into precise spaces on the ribosome, tRNAs are highly organized.
• tRNA carries the amino acids to the ribosomes, which has to be added to the polypeptide chain and rRNA forms
ribosomes along with proteins.
• Has a long-established role in protein synthesis. The tRNA molecule serves as an adaptor between the genetic
instructions written in nucleic acid sequences and the protein products encoded in genes. As an adapter, it links
the amino acids to nucleic acids.
• tRNAs are an essential component of translation, where their main function is the transfer of amino acids during
protein synthesis.
• Bring any codon to the ribosome so it can be added to the growing protein
• Bring any amino acid to the ribosome so it can be added to the growing protein.
• Read the message of nucleic acids, or nucleotides, and translate it into proteins, or amino acids. The process of
making a protein from an mRNA template is called translation.
• Picks up the amino acids and then delivers them to the ribosome. tRNA ensures the correct amino acid is delivered
• at the correct time by matching anticodons to mRNA strands.
