NOTICE
The adaptation values have to be reset after engine or gearbox
replacement.
Preparatory work
=> Removing and installing the rear-wheel stand special tool
(motorcycles without centre stand) (Description in item: 46 52
510, Billed as a separate item)
Draining engine oil
Installing engine lifter
Removing seat
Removing centre trim panel
Removing left side panel
Removing right side panel
Removing battery
Remove the intake air silencer
Disengaging oxygen sensor
Removing silencer
Removing exhaust manifold
Removing horn with bracket
Draining coolant
Removing radiator
Removing voltage regulator
Removing holder for voltage regulator
Removing air guide
Removing front left footrest plate with gearshift lever and side
stand
Removing complete front right footrest plate assembly
Removing pinion cover
Disconnecting wiring harness at top of engine
Releasing throttle-valve stub assembly
Disengaging clutch cable
Disengaging wiring harness from engine at front
Disconnect the plugs on right side of engine
Removing camshaft sensor
Remove the pressure modulator from engine
Relieving chain tension

ATTENTION
Routing of tensioning straps not in compliance with correct
procedure
Damage to brake lines, Bowden cables, bearings and trim panels
Carefully route retaining straps.
Use a cloth to protect painted components from scratches.
Pivot rear wheel swinging arm (1) forward and lift the chain off the
pinion.
Secure rear wheel swinging arm (1) and the rear wheel to the rear
frame with retaining straps (arrows).
Remove screws (6) with washers (7).
Carefully work frame (2) up and clear of engine (3), paying particular
attention to the areas of coolant pump (4) and cylinder-head cover
(5).
Make sure that no cables, plugs and lines are damaged, paying
particular attention to the cables for the oxygen sensors and the side
-stand switch.
ATTENTION

Clean the mating faces between frame (2) and engine (3).
ease frame (2) down on to engine (3), paying particular attention to
the areas of coolant pump (4) and cylinder-head cover (5).
Make sure that no cables, plugs and lines are damaged, paying
particular attention to the cables for the oxygen sensors and the side
-stand switch.
Loosely engage screws (6) with washers (7).
Relieve the tension on the retaining straps (arrows) of the rear
wheel and rear wheel swinging arm (1).
Pivot rear wheel swinging arm (1) and the rear wheel forward and lift
the chain on to the pinion.
Lubricant
Acid-free friction-bearing grease 81 22 9 407 174
Insert swinging arm (2), noting the two thrust bushings (7).
Install swinging-arm axle (1), noting bearing needles (6).
Install circlip (5).
Install caps (4).
Disengage the straps from the rear wheel and the rear wheel
swinging arm.
