Interview Transcript/ Narrative Essay

The interviewee said that as a sales estimator in a civil engineering company named
Joii Philippines, she possesses strong analytical and mathematical abilities, knowledge
of engineering principles, attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and
proficiency in software tools such as Excel and AutoCAD. Her main responsibilities
involve reviewing project specifications and drawings, identifying project requirements,
estimating project costs, and preparing and submitting proposals to clients.

According to her, as a civil engineer, she is expected to adhere to a code of ethics

established by professional engineering associations, which emphasizes principles
such as integrity, honesty, respect for others, and the responsibility to protect the
health, safety, and welfare of the public. She emphasized that ethical codes are crucial

in the field of civil engineering, as engineers have a significant impact on society
through the projects they design and build.

In a traditional setup, the interviewee explained that a sales estimator would usually
work in an office environment alongside other employees, with access to tools and
resources such as a computer, software programs, and engineering drawings. She
added that the sales estimator may also attend meetings with clients, contractors, and
other stakeholders, which could involve traveling to project sites or other locations.
She further noted that her company follows safety protocols such as wearing masks,
social distancing, and regular sanitization of the workplace to ensure a safe working
environment for its employees during the pandemic.

When asked about the challenges of her job, she mentioned dealing with tight
deadlines, managing multiple projects simultaneously, and keeping up with changing
industry standards and regulations. She emphasized that future professionals must be
prepared to work under pressure and continuously update their skills and knowledge.

Lastly, the interviewee advised future professionals to continuously update their skills
and knowledge, stay up to date with industry trends and regulations, prioritize ethical
behavior in their work, and develop strong communication and teamwork skills, which
she believes are essential for success in this field. She also emphasized that I need a
lot of patience in this field of work.
