1.0 PROJECT DESCRIPTION

MARAFIQ is a Power & Water Utility Company for Jubail and Yanbu, desires to expand IWTP-8 which will be called
Stage-4 with treatment capacity of 125,000m3/day. The plant will be designed to have layout for future Re-use
treatment plant that will further treat 80,000 m3/day of IWTP-8 Stage-4 effluent to meet Demineralization Feed water
quality.

The Expansion project contract is based on a Design, Build and Operate (DBO) concept broken down into an
Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) part and an Operation and Maintenance (O&M) part. The EPC
project duration will be for 36 months from Commencement Date, while the O&M period of the contract will be for 5
years from Initial Acceptance of the Works from MARAFIQ.

For further details, refer Document No. MSCF-1-PC-057 Attachment D EPC Scope of Work of Contract

The SSEM will provide design and construction drawings, supervision of work, labor, construction plant and equipment,
materials, tools, Quality control and coordination to execute the works in accordance with the relevant design drawings,
Standards and specifications.

1.1 PURPOSE AND SCOPE

1.1.1 PURPOSE

The purpose of the plan is to propose the dewatering process for the mechanical underground piping required in the
project and to ensure that the work is safe, also to define the discharge point to ensure that the work is in accordance
with health, safety and the environment MARAFIQ requirements

Erection crew must read and keep available complete set of Erection Drawings and Erection Notes along with this
method statement before commencing any work. This method shall necessitate documentation in line with project
quality plan, vendor guidelines and per Client requirements in order to achieve the completion of the project in a
manner that all procedures shall be completed with project quality, safety and planning schedule and other project
documents. It is worthy to mention that we will utilize existing approved dewatering plan for piping also in due time
when piping material is delivered to site and excavation, and trenching shall be planned and executed.

1.1.2 Scope

Underground GRP piping constitutes major portion of mechanical scope. Given site conditions it is required to
provide a working dewatering plan to describe a safe, stable, and dry working environment inside of IWTP-8
project using typical well point dewatering system.

2.0 INTRODUCTION

a. Dewatering is the temporary reduction of pore pressures or groundwater levels to provide dry, stable and
safe soil conditions in excavations below groundwater level.

b. On a construction project dewatering is used to facilitate the construction of the deep excavations that are
required for foundations, basements

3. DEWATERING TYPE

a. As per the site condition SSEM shall install a single stage Well point system to control the ground water
within the area of the excavation required to construct the below water table level activities.

b. Well points are small-diameter (about 2”) tubes with slots near the bottom that are inserted into the ground
from which water is drawn by a vacuum generated by a dewatering pump. Well points are typically installed at
close centers in a line along or around the edge of an excavation.

c. Well point dewatering involves the installation of riser pipes/tubes with a filter section on the lower 1-meter
portion, connected into a common header pipe from which the water can be pumped by a vacuum assisted
pump to a convenient discharge point.

5. PREPARATIONS AND PRECONDITIONS

a. System
1. The system shall be installed at the existing ground level after the shoring beams are installed.
2. The well points will be 6 meters long & will be placed.
3. The header pipes will be placed close to the well points. 4. The
pumps shall be placed at convenient locations.
5. The system will be a closed one covering the site from all the sides.
6. We propose to install the well points at approximately 1-meter centers.
7. Actual spacing will be determined by the site factors such as obstacles etc. on site.
8. The dewatering pump will be positioned at the same level as the header pipes and the actual location
of the pump will be arranged & decided on site.

b. Excavation
1. Conduct a survey and mark the location of the area to be excavated
2. Allowance should be given to provide enough working space between the existing structures and the
edge of the excavation & between the excavated area & the header pipes to prevent collapse of the
header pipes.

3. The header for the well point system will be placed along the perimeter of the excavation area and
dewatering pump will be fixed away from the excavation line.

6. INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

1.It has been informed that the soil is soft sand hence the well points shall be installed by the high-
pressure water jetting method with the help of a high-pressure jetting pump and 2” X6 meter jetting
Rod (Metal Pipe). First the jetting rod will be inserted in the ground by high pressure jetting and it will
at the same time clean the hole and a well point will be inserted along the jetting rod and once the
well point is inserted, filtration material (if required) shall be poured around the well point filter and
the jetting rod will be removed and the next well point will be installed in the same way. The spacing
between each well point shall be one to Two meter and the well points shall be installed about 1
meter away from the shoring (if required).
2. Once all the well points are installed around the pit the 2” flexible hose will be fitted firmly to the well
point using 2” hose clips at the top end of the well point.
3. Then the header pipes will be placed close to the well points covering the pit from all the sides and
the header pipes will be connected to the well points with the help of the 2” female fitting being
clamped to the mushroom takeoff on the header pipe.
4. The header pipes will be connected to each other and it will be made sure that there are no leaks in
the complete system. The pump will be connected to the header pipe with the help of a suction hose
& a ‘T’ junction will be used to connect the header pipes coming from both sides to the pump, if
required and end caps will be used at the end of each system.
5. A lay flat discharge hose will be used to discharge the ground water up to the final discharge point.
6. After the installation is completed the pumps will be started & the water level will be dropped to the
required level.

7. DISCHARGE

1. A lay flat discharge hose will carry the ground water to the discharge point.
NOTES:

During the excavation the contractor should take care that the well points are not damaged

7.1 SHORING
1. Shoring will be carried out, if the excavation to be done is situated adjacent to
constructed structure.

2. Shoring will be depending upon the depth of excavation to be done and distance from the
constructed structure.

8. COMMISSIONING OF DEWATERING SYSTEM

a. Once complete, the dewatering system will be started with the maximum rate of 380m3/hr. or as require pumping
rate according to the site condition. After the first 12 hours of running, all well-point locations will be observed and
adjusted, so that the correct vacuum is created to achieve full efficiency of the system.

b. The installed well point dewatering system can be modified to a limited degree, header pipes can be disconnected in
sections, pumps & discharge hose can be moved. However, any alteration & extension to the system after installation
involves stoppage of pumps.

c. Monitor the dewatering system in a 24-hour basis with experienced technicians and additional stand by dewatering
pumps

9. SITE HEALTH AND SAFETY

a. The work will execute in accordance with the approved safety plan. Work permit will obtain prior to any
commencement of work when required and as per our PTW Procedure.

I. Ensure work permit is valid and present on workplace.

ii. Take all the required precaution as per standard.
iii. Barricade the work area.
iv. All safety sign board must be visibly posted.
v. Ensure that only authorized personnel are within the work area.
vi. The work shall be executed in accordance with the approved Safety Action Plan and daily Safety Work Plan.

vii. Work Method Statement and RA (Risk Analysis) will be attaching with all work permits.
viii. Safety Officer will be available all the time to look after the safe work activities.
ix. Site HSE Log book will be available on site all the time during work activities.
