LOCATION
Firgas is located in the north of the island of Gran Canaria, 28 kilometers from the island
capital. It limits with the municipalities of Moya, Valleseco, Teror and Arucas. With an
extension of 15.77 km², Firgas is the smallest municipality on the island of Gran Canaria.
Firgas also has the amount of 7941 inhabitants.
FLAG
Red symbolizes the blood spilled in the Conquest, and especially
that of the aboriginal warrior Doramas. White symbolizes the clouds
that usually crown the heights of the municipality.

The Firgas Church, also known as the Church of San Roque, is a
historic church located in the town of Firgas on the island of
Gran Canaria, Spain. The church was built in the 16th century,
Making it one of the oldest churches in the Canary Islands.
The architecture of the Firgas Church is a mix of Gothic,
Renaissance, and Baroque styles

HISTORY
The town of Firgas has a rich history dating back to pre-Hispanic
times, when the indigenous Guanches lived on the island of Gran
Canaria. The town was originally called "Firgás," which is derived
from the Guanche word "Firajana," meaning "abundant waters."
In the 15th century, the Spanish conquered the Canary Islands, and
Firgas became part of the Spanish empire. The town was a center
of agriculture and trade, producing sugar cane, fruits, and
vegetables that were exported to other parts of Spain and Europe.
