Osteoarthritis is a common form of arthritis that occurs when the cartilage that cushions the

joints wears down over time, causing pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility. There are several
types of osteoarthritis, including:
1. Primary osteoarthritis: This is the most common type of osteoarthritis, which occurs
due to natural aging and wear and tear on the joints.
2. Secondary osteoarthritis: This type of osteoarthritis develops as a result of another
condition, injury, or joint abnormality. Examples include joint injuries, infections,
obesity, and metabolic disorders.
3. Erosive osteoarthritis: This is a rare form of osteoarthritis that primarily affects the
hands and is characterized by the erosion of the bones in the finger joints.
4. Inflammatory osteoarthritis: In this type of osteoarthritis, there is inflammation in
addition to the typical degenerative changes. It is usually seen in post-traumatic
osteoarthritis, and can also be associated with other inflammatory diseases like gout,
rheumatoid arthritis, and psoriatic arthritis.
5. Post-traumatic osteoarthritis: This type of osteoarthritis develops after an injury to
the joint, such as a fracture or dislocation.
It's important to note that while there are different types of osteoarthritis, the symptoms
and treatment options are generally similar for all types.
