Cookies Final Project
°°••....••°°
Project Description: Write a paragraph introducing your cookies problem. ❤
My bakery is named Sweets. Our main mission is to create yummy and fun desserts, all year
round. Right now our main focus is chocolate cupcakes and chocolate chip cookies. We
never slack on chocolate. Our constraints are time, budget, and staff. How will we make
enough desserts to supply our customers and make a profit? We also don't want TOO many
leftovers, although I would just eat them. This project teaches us about markup and margin
and shows us how businesses function. Our cupcakes sell for $2.50 and they cost around
$3.50 a batch. And for our cookies, they cost $7.14 a batch and we sell them for 2$.( we had to
round). Our best combo for max money is 23 cookies and 66 cupcakes, which makes our
profit $190, of course, we might have to round as a batch of cookies makes 36 cookies and a
batch of cupcakes makes 12 cupcakes. To make enough cupcakes we would need to make
around 6 batches and that will land us at 72 cupcakes.
Solution:❤
● Step 1: Organize your Information in a table❤
Constraints spreadsheets

constraints cookies cupcakes total

time .58 hrs 1 hrs 48 hrs
budget $7.14 $3.50 $400
staff $8 $13.75 $200

● Step 2: Write your constraints as inequalities❤

. 58𝑥 + 1𝑦 ≤ 48
7. 14𝑥 + 3. 50𝑦 ≤ 400
8𝑥 + 13. 75𝑦 ≤ 200

Constraints spreadsheets
Time:
We are able to bake our treats at the same time. Another way to save time is to pay
someone on an off day, to bake a huge batch of cookie dough, portion it into balls and
freeze them. That way, we can spend less time making cookies and focus on our
cupcakes.
Chocolate chip cookies take 30 minutes to produce 36 cookies, but if w make the
dough ahead of time, our bake time would be 8-10 minutes and prep 10-20, including
cooling.
Chocolate cupcakes take 1 hour to make and produce 24 cupcakes.
And a total of 48 hours to make everything
In 48 hours we could make

Budget:
Our total cost per batch of cupcakes and cookies is $10.64. This is the budget to create
one batch of each item.

Staff:
Staffing is hard to find, and we don't wanna rely on teenagers because of their lack of
knowledge and drive to do things well. Adults these days don't want to work. Our
question is, should we hire people from my mom's businesses Zia and Sage?

Each shift is 5-8 hrs, morning and night. Morning - 8-2:30 / 9-3:30 Night - 3:30-8 /
11-7

● Step 3: Write your profit equation❤

1.98x+2.19y=profit

. 58𝑥 + 1𝑦 ≤ 48
7. 14𝑥 + 3. 50𝑦 ≤ 400
8𝑥 + 13. 75𝑦 ≤ 200

● Step 4: Graph your feasible region (paste screenshot)❤

● Step 5: Test your best solutions and find max profit❤

Cookies Cupcakes Profit

45 21 135

23 34 120

23 66 190

Project Reflection: Write one full paragraph answering one of the following
questions. For your response, you must provide evidence and adequate analysis of
your evidence. ❤

● In what ways has the cookies project helped you gain perspective on doing
real-world mathematics? ❤
It definitely changes my perspective of what my mom does, I've always thought
people choose random numbers for things, turns out math is a big part of changing
prices etc. I've always wondered why my managers count everything. Taking
inventory helps with knowing how much food is needed. My mom and I always talk
about wanting to open a sweet shop, with baked goods, ice cream, and candy. This
project was super fun because it felt like our sweet shop could come to life and I liked
how I could be creative
As a register at Zia, I was seeing a lot of our customers annoyed by the prices
of our items. I asked my mom how much we raised the prices and she told me 11%. An
odd number for sure. Turns out food prices went up so Zia's sales prices also had to.
My mom uses old prices to understand how much they should mark up. This
broadened my undertaking of the real world and how markup and margin are part of
lots of businesses

This is my logo ideas if my sweet shop came to life LOLLLL❤
