Physics Class Notes:

Topic: Newton's Laws of Motion

Newton's First Law (Law of Inertia):

An object at rest will remain at rest, and an object in motion will continue moving
at a constant velocity unless acted upon by an external force.
Inertia is the tendency of an object to resist changes in its motion.
Example: A book on a table remains at rest until someone pushes or pulls it.
Newton's Second Law (Law of Acceleration):

The acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the net force acting on

it and inversely proportional to its mass.
Mathematically, F = ma, where F represents the net force, m is the mass of the
object, and a is the acceleration it experiences.
The standard unit of force is the Newton (N).
Example: Pushing a heavier object requires more force to achieve the same
acceleration as a lighter object.
Newton's Third Law (Law of Action-Reaction):

For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

When an object exerts a force on another object, the second object exerts an equal
and opposite force on the first.
Example: When you push against a wall, the wall pushes back with an equal amount of
force.
