Crayons or markers of (*2):

18 worksheets to fill out findings and access the student’s knowledge.

Transparent circle sheets of blue, red, and yellow (3 of each)

Objectives
Within 5 minutes, the student will be able to demonstrate of how mixing primary colors (Red,
Yellow, and Blue) creates a Secondary color (Yellow, Green, and Orange) using manipulatives
and preforming a written assessment of skills.

Instructions

1. The teacher will have prepared examples to show the students, how to mix the colors, and
how to record them on the sheet for the assessment.
2. The teacher will set up the three circles of each color up at each seat at the center.
3. After allowing the students a moment for the exploration the manipulatives, visual
directions and an assessment worksheet will be placed on the table.
4. Students will hold the colored discs two at a time, to discover how the mixing of two
primary colors creates a new color
5. Students will then record on their worksheet assessment the two colors that they have
mixed, and the product or what resulted. (Such as red +blue =purple)

Assessment
I will assess the students by providing a worksheet where they will write their finding of each
color combinations.
When students follow the directions and create each color, the teacher will be able to see that
the students were able to replicate each color for the mixed circles on the worksheet.
Directions for students:
Place the two circles together on your paper and watch as the colors mix.
Use markers of the two colors that you mixed and mark them in the boxes 1 and 2.
Then color the color you created in box 3

Challenge: Write the names of the colors you mixed and created on the lines under the circle.

Reflection

The students seemed to be able to follow the directions easily, there were plenty of
materials for the students, students seemed engaged and interested in the lesson. Next time I
would provide a spot to place the markers to keep them from rolling around, and only give one
of each color. I would also test the markers before giving them to the students because one of
my yellow markers did not work. My peers also provided good feedback on my worksheet
design and level of understanding. I believe that the students who completed my lesson met my
objective and learned skills to feel confident in the standard presented.
