INTRODUCTION

The blood bank management system is a web based application system that is used by blood
bank as a means to store donation records and blood products.

Blood is a very intrinsic part of the healthcare system. Blood as a whole is donated voluntarily
which can later be used for patent or preparation of therapeutic products. Various components of
blood can be separated and used later as per the need. The requirement of blood in hospital may
arise at any moment.

The requirement of blood in Nigeria is almost 16 million units per year. But there is a total
mismatch in the blood collected and the blood required. Haphazard management of blood lead
to various issues like non availability of blood, shortage of blood and last minute panic situations
among the people who require blood.

The online blood bank management system can help regulate the process of blood flow and
abolish the loopholes of the system.

The primary goal of this project is to create a hassle free experience for the donors and receivers
in the blood donation process.

PROBLEM STATEMENT
Poorly managed blood transfusion is likely to be associated with some risk such as death of
blood recipient due to blood agglutination, transmission of diseases such as HIV/AIDs etc

Blood bank as the control unit of blood collection and transfusion services suffer with the
difficulties of proper management of the blood collection service such as poor keeping of
blood donor record, blood collection detail, poor blood inventory management system, lack of
awareness . So these problems in the blood bank cause the transfusion service in health care to
operate in an inefficient manner. Due to those problems there is a need of having properly
managed blood bank management system which is the core unit of blood collection service.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

AIMS:
To provide online information flow for the management of blood donor, recipient, support,
production, storage, issue of blood and blood production.

To design and develop a Blood bank management system for hospitals and clinic that would
enable faster and more efficient storage, retrieval, upgrade and updating of blood bank records.
OBJECTIVES:
 To provide a means for the blood bank to publicize and advertise blood donation
program.
 To allow the probable recipient to make search and match the volunteer donor and make

 To provide synchronized and centralized donor and blood stock database
 To provide immediate storage and retrieval of information.

METHODOLOGY
A waterfall model under the Software development life Cycle (SDLC) is the methodology that is
chosen to produce the Online Blood Bank Management System. It divide the development
process into stages which include;

Planning

Requirement

System Design

Implementation

Testing and Deployment

Maintenance

The tool to be used include HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP and MYSQL.

Conclusion
Advancement in technology is the prime reason that most of the facilities are available easily and
quickly in general all the sectors in life.

Similarly, my proposed system is a major advancement in the management of blood which is

intended to increase efficiency in the collecting and procuring blood. Automating the process of
blood management provides a better and quick response in emergency cases. A proper
management system that solves the existing issues in the concerned sector will help restoring the
value of life that is currently deteriorating because of blood in availability.
This web based application provides a very organized medium of communication between the
blood bank and hospitals.

In conclusion online blood management system is a simplified solution to the problem in the
current blood flow process that tries to remove the hurdles in the path of having top notch as well
as smooth transfer of blood.
