SCHBK 1025A ELEMENTARY ETUDES FOR BASS TROMBONE Welcome to the world of the Bass Trombone! It’s a great place to visit and a marvelous place to live. ‘The instrument has been around for a long time and has undergone many altera- tions; still is, and all for the better. The traditional F valve with the E pull is very much in use today, although many teachers have gone a step further with the double valve. It seems that the two valve system is more or less a personal factor, rather than standard equipment (some players favor the F and the E valve; others swear by the F and E flat valve; the F and D valve, and even the F and G valve, operating independently). The Bass Trombone is in a constant state of change and improvement, therefore, with the exception of a very few valve markings, I leave the valve and slide posi- tions to the discretion of the teacher and the player. I would strongly recommend 1g down all valve and slide positions (plus the alternatives) above each note. I believe this book will take the aggressive beginner on as fast a musical trip as he himself will allow, Just as the music you will later play is in all forms — so it goes in these Etudes. You will find studies for lip slurs, staccato tonguing. songs, lullabys, jazz waltz, blues, dramatic pieces, marches, EVERYTHING in today’s music. It will be en- joyable to practice, because let's face it, the Bass Trombone is fun to play.
