UWANG AHADAS

Who is he?
is a Filipino folk musician of the Yakan people who is a
recipient of the National Living Treasures Award
He is known for his mastery in playing traditional Yakan
instruments such as the agung, gabbang, and kwintangan
kayu.
He is part of the yakan people in the phillippines
He was born February 15, 1945

His achievement
He was conferred with the Gawad sa Manlilikha
ng Bayan (GAMABA) in 2000 in recognition of
his excellent contribution to the preservation of
Yakan traditional music.

His style of teaching


Uwang's teaching style is essentially hands-on. He
teaches by showing; his students learn by doing. His
hands constantly keep a firm hold on those of his
students, the gentle pressure encouraging them to
tap out music from the silent bamboo blades and the
splendid brass gongs.

Guillremo Tolentino

Who is he?
Guillermo Estrella Tolentino (July 24, 1890 – July 12, 1976)
was a Filipino sculptor and professor of the University of
the Philippines. He was designated as a National Artist of
the Philippines for Sculpture in 1973, three years before his
death

His achievement
He was awarded the National Artist of the
Philippines for Visual Arts in Sculpture
He had notable sculptures like: the UP Oblation,
the Bonifacio Monument in Caloocan, the designs for the
gold and bronze medals of the Ramon Magsaysay Award,
the design for the seal of the Republic of the Philippines.

His style of sculpture


His famous sculpture the bonifacio monument is made
granite and bronze
And his other sculpture the oblation is made of
concrete
His style uses Classicism in his artworks

His inspirations on making

In 1919, he arrived in Washington, D.C. He


worked as a waiter in a cafe in Rock Creek
Park. Inspired by President Woodrow Wilson's
work for peace, he created a small statue
symbolizing “peace” – hoping someday he may
be able to present it to the President.
