Disscussion

The current research study has been conducted for the investigation of detail petrographic and

geochemical analysis of Hayagi area for the proper characterization of mineralogical

composition, identification of rock, magma origin and tectonic setting.

Detail petrographic study reveals that the area consists of two types of rocks i.e. Basaltic andesite

and andesite. The essential minerals of the basaltic andesite and andesite of the study area are

plagioclase and feldspar while the accessory minerals are Hornblende, pyroxene, and minor

amount of chlorite, sericite epidote and opaque mineral. Chlorite, sericite and epidote are the

alteration product. The plagioclase is the most abundant mineral in the basaltic andesite and

andesite having well developed twinning euhedral to tabular shape.

Geochemical investigation of the study area has carried out for the further confirmation of rock

type, magma type, magma origin and tectonic environment of the Hayagi area. The major and

trace element data were plotted in different geochemical diagrams. TAS diagram of volcanic

rocks Cox et al, (1979) shows that the rock are intermediate basaltic andesite and andesite.

theolitic trend of magma is confirmed by plotting the geochemical data in AFM plot of Irvine

and Baragar (1971). Spider diagrams NMORB McDonough and Sun (1989), EMORB

McDonough and Sun (1989), and Chondrites of Thompson 1982 shows that magma are

generated by the partial melting of metasomatized mantle in subduction related environment.

Conclusion

 The volcanic rocks of dir Hayagi area belongs to the north western margin of Kohistan

island arc western margin in dir utror volcanics.

 The rocks of the study area are intermediate basaltic andesite and andesite consist of

abundant plagioclase and feldspar identified by petrographic and geochemical analysis.

 The geochemical investigation shows that the magma is of theolitic trend.

 Different geochemical plots indicate that fraction crystallization is the major process for

the formation of these rocks related with subduction zone.
