Instructions
Solve the activity in a clear, legible and understandable way, in a word processor. In order to deliver
your work you should make a copy of this document and return it to the instructor with your work
in it. You should paste a picture of your work in the document.

To deliver your work you should share the document with the instructor by creating a PDF document
and upload it to the platform.

The activity
Estimate the volume of suspension, with the same features as in U3-P1, that is to be treated in a
filter media of 1 m2 available for filtration so that a cake 2cm thick is obtained, along with the
filtration time. Pressure difference is 2.5 atm.

Estimate:

A. The volume of the dried cake

B. The amount of solid in the dried cake
C. The suspension mass (from which the cake will be formed)
D. The mass solid fraction in the suspension (s)
E. The suspension density
F. The suspension volume
G. The volume of filtered liquid
H. The new value of k1
I. The new value of Ve
J. The filtration time
Hints:
● The suspension volume can be estimated from its density

● You may us a mass balance between the suspension, the cake and the filtered liquid to
find the volume of the last one

● You may use a scaling relationship to find the new Ve in terms of the old Ve

● Good luck
