ingredients
are substances that directly
help in achieving the
performance objectives of a
certain product.
Inactive
ingredients
Component usually
constitute a large
percentage of the product,
like fragrance and solvent.

Household cleaning
materials
Substances used to clean the household are called cleaning materials. These substances can
remove unwanted stains, dirt, or oil from household materials and surfaces such as utensils,
toilet bowls, bathroom tiles, and even sheets and sofas.

Some examples:

laundry detergent
dishwashing soap/detergent
toilet cleaner
surface/floor disinfectant or cleaner
all purpose cleaner

Removers Sodium carbonate, chloride (bleaching

added in the product.

Water, glycol ether, ammonia, and

alcohols, surfactants.
Special Surface Cleaners
surfactant
are compounds that lower the
surface tension (or interfacial
tension) between two liquids,
between a gas and a liquid, or
between a liquid and a
solid. Surfactants may act as
detergents, wetting agents,
emulsifiers, foaming agents, or
dispersants.

Personal care product
Substances intended for use on the external parts of the body, including the hair,
lip, and external genital organs. They are mainly used for cleansing, beautifying,
protecting external body parts, and perfuming.

Performance task:
A CAMPAIGN MATERIAL: SUSTAINABLE
CONSUMER PRODUCT FOR THE FUTURE
Content standard
• The learners demonstrate an understanding of the formation of the
elements during the Big Bang and during stellar evolution, the distribution
of the chemical elements and the isotopes in the universe, the uses of
different materials related to their properties and structures, the
relationship between the function and structure of biological
macromolecules, the following aspects of chemical changes: how much
reactants are needed and how many products are formed in a reaction
and how much energy is involved in a reaction.
Performance standard
• The learners on their own and in the long run will design a creative
campaign material that will showcase the different household products
indicating their uses, properties, mode of action, and precautions to
promote awareness and responsibility.
Engaging scenario
• COVID-19 is a communicable disease that affects millions of people around the world. By
simply coughing and sneezing, especially without a mask from an infected person, will
spread rapidly. Our first line of defense against this detrimental disease is by properly
following the safety protocol mandated by health experts, as well as using products like
alcohol and face masks that will help us to lessen the spread of the virus. Today, experts
from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warn the public regarding the use of
counterfeit and fraudulent virus–mitigating products that instead of protecting us, rather
increase the risk and possibility of getting the disease. The FDA was under the Department
of Health to monitor and regulate the flow of food, drugs, cosmetics, and household products
in the Philippines. In line with this, the learners are tasked to make an information campaign
on household and personal care products on their uses, properties, mode of action, and
precautions. Learners are going to show the public how these substances influence a
product’s chemical reactivity and use and how it helps us to shield against the said virus.
Meaning making
E.Q: How do substances influence a product’s chemical reactivity and use?
EU: The product’s chemical reactivity and use depend on its properties and
structures, functions, chemical changes, and energy involved in the reaction.
General instructions
1. The class will be divided into 6-7 groups with 4-5 members each.
2. You will be guided by the essential question, “How do substances influence a product’s
chemical reactivity and use?”.
3. As a group you will identify household or personal care products that will lessen the
spread of COVID-19 and will help society in achieving a sustainable future for all.
4. Based on the household or personal care product the students will indicate information
on each ingredient found in the consumer product based on their uses, properties,
mode of action, and precautions.
5. From the given information, students will create and design a campaign material with the
theme “Sustainable consumer product for the future”. The campaign material can be any
digital presentation like an e-magazine, a flipbook, an e-brochure, or an e-poster.
General instructions
6. As part of the campaign material learners will show the public how these substances
influence a product’s chemical reactivity and use and how it helps us to shield ourselves
against the said virus.
7. The consumer product identified should be censored for data privacy.
8. The final output must be in any format. (.pdf, .jpeg, or a URL).
9. The campaign material will be evaluated according to the following criteria: Content,
Impact, Relevance/Effectiveness, Organization, and other elements.
10. Deadline for the performance check will be on or before February ___, 2023.
11. Submission of the final output will be on or before February 18, 2023.
