[DOCUMENTARY CRITIQUE] ‘Paa, Kamay at Mata’ – Kara David
1) What did you learn from the film?
- I learned how fortunate and blessed I am that I am living without any existing
disability. I truly salute these kids that were covered and the people around
them because despite the several challenges and hindrances existing, they
showed perseverance in their own ways to live a fulfilling life.

- Seeing the disabled kids’ optimism despite their deficiencies inspires me a

lot to do even better than who I am right now. These kind of documentary
videos made me realize that I should be grateful instead of counting the
faults of life.

- Teacher Venus’ passion as a SPED educator ignites me to show the same

dedication and adjustments to what I am passionate with. She showcased
how pure her enthusiasm is on reaching out to disabled children as much
as she can.

- I believe being an SPED teacher is one of the toughest jobs ever. The fact
that you have to do numerous changes for every kid you have to teach is a
hurdle that I myself can’t imagine doing.

2) Describe a moment or scene in the film that you found particularly

moving/disturbing.
- Except for the last sequences, I find every scenes in the film quite moving
for me, the whole video was arranged exactly to move people and it
definitely delivered. They properly showcased how hard it is to have inborn
disabilities as well as the circumstances of the people surrounding the
disabled person especially the life of a SPED educator, how much the
teacher has to calibrate and adjust in accordance of his/her student.

- I find the last sequences disturbing, I am disheartened to the fact that there
isn’t any allotted budget for SPED for this year. It is very saddening that the
funds for the education whom are in special needs requires to go through
documentaries when we all know that being an philanthropist isn’t a hard
thing especially when you’re seating on a high position in the field of politics.

3) Did anything in the film surprise you?

- As I mentioned, the last sequences in the video surprised me due to
disappointment. SPED should have been an utmost importance in every
budgeting program that exists but yet it was left behind putting children in
special needs having a harder time to access education especially for those
who lives in rural areas.
