Speech to third form on how to choose GCSE’s

Hello third form.

How is everyone today?

Today I am going to be talking to you about how to choose your GCSE’s. Now it might not seem like it but
you will be sitting in the exam room taking the options you choose in about 3 years. Weird right! I remember
when I was your age and I had to choose. It was stressful, nerve-racking and I felt like it would change the
rest of my life. In a sense I was correct…

Yes, it will be a hard decision. But you can all do it. Im telling you now dont worry about them.

Now, chasing the exams. Lets start with the compulsory ones there’s; maths and english, obviously. Then ei-
ther chemistry, physics, biology or combined science. And finally Rs out of the compulsory ones. See me or
your teachers after about optional subjects.

From my experience there are two GCSE’s that Im especially happy that I chose, the first being Business
studies, I find this subject incredibly interesting and I would hope that it helps me in the future. The second is
Academic Sport, for me this is very helpful being interested in sport. And it has helped me understanding all
of my knee injuries over the past few years. So now I know the knee joint exceptionally well.

Im sure your parents are all very pushy with trying to find the best subjects for you (i know mine were) but
the thing is only you know the right subjects for you so therefore YOU have to give feedback to your parents
and your teachers.

I found that I always made the best decisions when I discussed them with family or teachers, dont be shy just
ask for help, say your confused, be honest, and also dont be scared to be confused I always was whilst choos-
ing and I still am now so I dont know if it was choosing the GCSE’s or not.

The subjects I take are:

- English language
- Maths
- French
- Business
- Academic Sport
- Chemistry
- Biology
- Geography
I know its only eight or nine subjects but thats because I have side sports and they are very time consuming,
but I think that you as a year group are very intelligent and should pick as many subjects as you can. this
gives the appearance that you have worked harder in school on your CV or school interviews its another
thing to brag about.

I hope you all think that you will make the right decisions for your GCSE’s, and whatever you choose you
should work hard to excel and be at the top of the class and believe it or now it will pay off.

theres one last point that I would hope that you all remember for choosing your GCSE’s and that it never
quit, keep working, put maximum effort into everything including HOMEWORK!!, (I never used to try hard
enough for homework). Be ahead of the game be on top of revision do 30 mins or even an hour after your
homework just to get that lead above everyone else. I assure you it will help.

Thank you for listening.
