in order? How about your toys? Did your parents ask you to organize
them? Did you mix all the toys or did you organize them in a way that you
can easily identify them? How did you do it?
Yes, we need to sort and classify them based on their characteristics.
You can group them according to colors, shapes, taste, size, height,
texture, etc.
The process of sorting involves grouping objects or events according
to their similarities (for example, all the cars, all the socks).
The process of classifying involves grouping objects or events into
pre-determined groups (for example, when your mother asks you to
classify the cutlery by putting all of the forks in one group, all of the
spoons in another, and all of the knives in a third group).
In sorting and classifying, you can tell or describe the differences and
similarities of objects. You have to group and name them.

Here are some examples.

The buttons are sorted according to their color. One color for each container.

The umbrellas are sorted according to their sizes. We have big

and small umbrellas.

The foods are sorted based on their taste. We have sweet and
salty foods.
