SECTION-E
V) ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS (4mx1Qx=4marks)
24. We use salt to make our food tasty. Do you know from where do we get it and how?
Seawater contains a large amount of common salt apart from the other salts dissolved in it. Salt
pits are formed near the seashore. Seawater is filled in these pits and allowed to stand. Gradually
water evaporates and salt is left along the boundaries of the pit. This salt is further purified to
make it fit for consumption. When sea water is allowed to stand in the shallow pits, water gets
heated by sunlight and slowly turns into water vapor. Evaporation is the process of separating the
solute from a solvent. by heating. The rate of evaporation increases on heating the mixture.
a) Which process is used to separate salt from seawater?
b) How can we increase the solubility of salt in water?
c) Explain how we get salt from seawater?
(OR)
c)What are the two methods to separate soluble solids from liquids?
