WORK EXPERIENCE
Graduate Research Assistant, NDSU, USA 2010–Present
 Synthesized and characterized a novel nanoclay polycaprolactone polymer nanocomposite with
a 4x increase in elastic modulus compared to conventional polymer.
 Developed a new mechanics based model of material degradation in the polymer scaffolds
using static and dynamic mechanical tests.
 Measured 3D in-vitro biodegradation and tissue formation of scaffolds using micro-CT.
 Designed a multiscale representative model and used non-linear finite element analysis (FEA)
techniques to predict the polymer microstructure failure characteristics.
 Developed a molecular dynamics model to demonstrate non-linear behavior of nanocomposite
films.
 Conducted statistical data analysis of cell culture experiments to determine the cells viability on
the polymer scaffolds.
Graduate Assistant, Material Testing Lab, NDSU, USA 2014–‘15
 Accountable for providing technical support and training to new users on the complex
operations for the mechanical testing instruments.
Sharma/2

Researcher, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India 2008–‘09

 Developed process-structure-property relationships fin order to synthesize a novel aqueous
electrolyte plasma (AEP) nitride coating on AISI 304L steel.
 Improved surface hardness of commercial AISI 304L steel by 5x using AEP nitride coating
technique.
 Optimized processing time and temperature of AEP coating technique to reduce nitriding time
by 15x compared to conventional gas coating techniques.
Summer Intern, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy 2008
 Analyzed the fracture and adhesion mechanism of AEP coating and achieved 30%
improvement in friction and wear properties of AISI 304L steel.
 Increased corrosion resistance by 50% and analyzed surface coating mechanism using XRD,
XPS and SEM/EDX techniques.
