DNA

Structure
By Sanad Jaser and Nazir Derani
DNA Structure
• DNA is the information molecule that
stores instructions for making proteins.
• DNA is composed of four nucleotides:
Adenine, Thymine, Guanine and Cytosine.
• DNA has a double helix shape, like a
twisted ladder
• The nucleotides pair up in specific ways: A
with T and C with G
• The sugar phosphate backbone forms the
sides of the double helix.
Watson and Crick
Model of DNA
• Watson and Crick were scientists who
discovered the double helix model of
DNA.
• They used data from other
researchers, such as X-ray
crystallography images from Rosalind
Franklin and Maurice Wilkins.
• They showed that DNA is composed
of two strands of nucleotides that are
held together by base pairing: A with
T and c with G
Nucleotides Always
Pair the Same Way
• Nucleotides: are the building blocks of DNA
• They are made of sugar, phosphate and nitrogen base
• There are four types of bases in DNA: adenine (A),
thymine (T), cytosine (C) and guanine (G).
• The bases form hydrogen bonds with each other to make
to strands of DNA hold each other.
• The bases always pair in a specific way: A with T and G
with C
• The process is consistent and accurate
Conclusion
• DNA is a double helix of
nucleotides that store
genetic information.
• Watson and crick
discovered its structure
using data from other
scientists
• Nucleotides pair in a
specific way A with T and
C with G
