I. INTRODUCTION

The simplest, most versatile, and accurate machine tool found in virtually all
manufacturing facilities and tool rooms is the drilling machine. Since drilling primarily serves to
create holes in the workpiece, it is generally considered to be a single-purpose machine tool
(Kumar, n.d.)

The act of drilling involves using a drill bit to create a cylindrical hole in a solid material.
It involves using a drill bit to create a circular cross-sectional hole in a solid material. Described
as a cylindrical bar with helical flutes and radial cutting edges on one end, the drill bit is defined
to be a rotary cutting tool. Creating holes is the sole function of the drilling machine (Vyas,
2022).

Like any other machines, Drilling Machines do also have various specifications. This
would include: Portable Drilll Machines specified by the maximum diameter of the drill which
can be held; Sensitive and Upright drill machines specified by the diameter of the largest
workpiece they can hold; Radial drill machines specified by the length of the arm and column
diameter and; Multiple spindle drill machines specified by the drilling Area, the size and the
number of holes the machine can drill (Kumar, n.d.).

Overall, in many various industries, such as construction, medical equipment,

transportation, and electronic equipment, the drilling machine is widely used. In specialized
applications, various drill types are used to create holes of varying diameters in a variety of
materials (Market Prospects, 2020)

DRILL PRESS MACHINE - Drill presses are mostly used for drilling holes, but they can also
be used to enlarge holes with a boring tool or to reamer holes after they have been drilled. They
can create threads in a hole using a special tapping attachment and
a tap. To remove wood from stock and create a hole in it, a drill
press uses a spinning tool with several cutting edges. Drilling
machines are typically vertically stacked, with tools that may
operate at different rates and feeds. For gang drilling, they could
also feature several spindles.
II. OBJECTIVE
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
 Familiarize the drilling machine principles
 Know how to operate the drilling machine
 Create a project using the drilling machine
 Adapt the safety measures in operating the drilling machine
 Perform repair and maintenance of drilling machine

III. TOOLS AND MATERIALS USED

TOOLS

DRILL BIT - An instrument with cutting points called a drill bit

is used to pierce any solid substance. Drill bits are made to drill
holes in a wide range of typical materials. These materials include
various kinds of wood, metal, plastic, porcelain, ceramic tile, and
concrete. There are other drill bits available for sheet metal, brick,
fiberglass, cast iron, steel, aluminum, copper, and other materials.

 Drill bits sizes we use

5 mm 13 mm
Drill chucks -are devices used to hold a drill or other
cutting tools on a spindle.

Vernier Caliper – is for measuring the diameter

of the holes, distance and depth of the holes

Drill press vise clamp - used to clamp a

workpiece during drilling operations

MATERIALS
IV. PROCEDURE

 Machine set up
o Plan and make the layout desired
o Wear proper PPEs
o Research and ask Instructor for relevant information about setting up the drill
press machine. This would include the operations, safety measures, tips and etc.
 Work piece set up
o Inspect the machine if there is any problem
o Plug the machine 3. Put the work piece to the table and clamp it tight
o Begin to make the machine work
o Make a guide to the material to drill holes
 Cutting tool set up
o Inspect the drill bit if it is dull or fragile
o After setting the cutting tool ,test if it is sharp
 Perform drilling
o Drill the holes using the right size of your drill bit

o Before you begin drilling, confirm that the drill bit's tip is in contact with the
material and that it is being held at an appropriate angle. If you drilled a hole for a
fastener, make sure it can be inserted into the hole simply. (Bolts, screws, rivets).
If not, either re-drill the hole slightly larger this time, or use the same drill bit but
gently twist it in a circular motion as you drill to ream out the edges.

 Finishing

o Make sure to take out the drill bit and re-position it once you've finished drilling
all your holes. Clean any dust or chips that may have fallen onto the floor or work
surface.
V. DATA AND RESULT

LAY-OUT

BEFORE

AFTER
Here is the output of our laboratory work number two, which is the drilling machine
operation that we've made on a piston.

VI. DOCUMENTATION

Layugan is setting up the drill bits and the workpiece

Aldamar is drilling the wheel of the canon by using the 5mm drill bit.

Orani is drilling the body of the canon by using the 5mm drill bit.

Barnacha is drilling the canon by using the 5mm and 13mm drill bit.

After we finish drilling Nitura clean the drill press and she return all the tools in the tool keeper
VII. CONCLUSION
 In conclusion, the students were able to familiarize themselves unto the various drilling
machine principles. The students also were able to know how to operate the drilling
machine and with that regard, the students were able to create a project using the drilling
machine. Throughout such period, the students adapted the various safety measures when
operating the drilling machine. Lastly, the students also performed maintenance on the
drilling machine. This would include checking for defects, leaving the machine clean and
unplugged, setting right parameters (e.g. rpm) before drilling operation, etc..

VIII. RECOMMENDATIONS

 In conclusion of the laboratory, the students recommend for any workers in the Machine
Shop to always prioritize safety. This specifically include the consistent use of PPEs
before and during the course subject either operating or not, the practice of inspecting
equipment before, during, and after operations, as well as not hesitatingly asking for
clarifications on the respective Instructor/Professional in-charge. It is also recommended
by the students to maintain an uncrowded working place for this could largely prevent
undesired accidents. Lastly, the students recommend for Workers to maintain the order
and cleanliness of the Machine Shop. This specifically pertains to the practice whereby
all machines should’ve been turned off, tools and equipment used are re-orgarnized
respective to where they have been acquired, etc. , quarter before end of the period.
