Activity 11.

1. Use the information to evaluate and compare ∆𝑦 and 𝑑𝑦.

𝑦 = 𝑥 5 + 2𝑥 2 − 3, 𝑥 = 2, ∆𝑥 = 𝑑𝑥 = 0.01

2. The circumference of a circle is 100 cm. If the radius is increased by 0.1 cm, find the
approximate increase in the area.

3. For a right circular cylinder of height 25 cm, the radius was measured as 20 cm with
an error of 0.05 cm. Find the approximate percentage error in the computed
volume.

4. If an error of 2% is made in measuring the edge of a cube, find (a) the approximate
relative error in the surface area (b) the approximate percent error in the volume.

5. Use differential to approximate the value of the following expressions: (a) √124.8
2
5
(b) √1024.5 (c) (63.4)3
