"Construction Waste" An investigative case study in the Effects of Excessive Construction Waste in
Eaglenest Village, Parsolingan, Tarlac

Abstract:

Construction and demolition (C&D) waste is a major contributor to global waste generation. Its
mismanagement and inadequate disposal result in environmental degradation, health risks, and
economic losses. In 2018, the United States produced 600 million tons of construction and demolition
debris, which is more than twice as much as the country produced in terms of municipal solid waste.
Construction accounts for less than 10% of construction and demolition debris generation while the
demolition accounts for more than 90% of it. In the Philippines particularly in Manila, the construction
industry contributes 30% of solid wastes that eventually end up in landfills. The investigative case study
aims to focus on the impacts of the excessive construction wastes in environment and human health in
the community of Eaglenest Village in Brgy. Parsolingan, Tarlac. It also aims to investigate the regulatory
framework in place to manage the problem. The problem statement for this case study is to investigate
the effects of excessive construction waste on the environment, economy, and society, and to identify
best practices for minimizing waste generation and promoting sustainable waste management practices
in the construction industry. The case study will aim to provide recommendations for policies and
initiatives that promote sustainable practices and reduce the negative impacts of construction waste on
the environment, economy, and society.
