Malala Yousafzai

The Nobel Peace Prize 2014

Prize motivation: “for their struggle against the suppression of
children and young people and for the right of all children to
education
Malala Yousafzai was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her
fight for the right of every child to receive an education. 

In 2012, Malala was shot in the head on a school bus by a Taliban gunman. She
survived, but had to flee to England and live in exile there because a fatwa was issued
against her. Currently residing in Birmingham, Malala is an active proponent of
education as a fundamental social and economic right. Through the Malala Fund and
with her own voice, Malala Yousafzai remains a staunch advocate for the power of
education and for girls to become agents of change in their communities.
Shakira
Shakira Mebarak is a Colombian singer/songwriter, Grammy-winning
artist and devoted advocate for early childhood education. Since 2003,
she has supported UNICEF’s work and helped raise awareness for the
world’s most vulnerable children. In 2015, she became a member
of former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s International Commission
on Financing Global Education.Shakira is also the founder of the Pies
Descalzos Foundation, which provides education for children in
Colombia.In 2017, she was honoured at the World Economic Forum,
receiving the Crystal Award for her humanitarian work.

Elizabeth Ann Smart-Gilmour (born November 3, 1987) is an American child safety


activist and contributor for ABC News. She first gained national attention at the age
of 14 when she was abducted from her home in Salt Lake City and rescued nine
months later. Smart is also a musician who has played harp on national television in
the United States. she runs a nonprofit organization to continue her outreach
called the Elizabeth Smart Foundation.
