MUSI 4363: Music in the Romantic Period II: Final Exam: Review Sheet

 The final exam is scheduled Thursday, May 11, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. You will likely not
need the full three hours, but you may take the full time if you arrive on time.
 The exam will cover all of the material listed in the class syllabus, sessions 11 through 14, 16-21,
and the Sullivan part of.
 Please bring a blue book or ruled loose-leaf paper to class with you on May 11.
 Also bring a pen or sharpie to produce dark writing.

Part I: 10 Short Identifications, 8 points each, 80 points altogether


For each short ID, you will be given a name, a term, etc. Possible IDs are marked with hashtags.
For each short ID, you will need to supply the following:
(a) a description, explanation, or identification of the term, name, etc.
(b) a title (1 point)
(c) a genre (1 point) [use only the genres as listed below]
(d) a composer (1 point)
(e) a nationality (1 point)
(f) a decade (1 point)
(g) relevant significant historical information or background (1 point)
(h) relevant stylistic information about the piece (1 point)

Part II: 2 Take-home Essay Questions, each worth 20 points = 40 points


Complete instructions are given in the Take-Home Essay File in Blackboard. Both essays are due
a the time of the exam, 11:00 a.m., May 11.

Part III: 12 Listening Questions, 7 points each, 84 points total)


You will hear 11 recorded musical examples, each approximately 1 minute long.
After each example, you will have approximately 1 minute of silence to complete your answer.
After all the musical examples have been played, they will all be repeated without pause.
For each example, you will need to supply the following:
(a) a title (1 point)
(b) a genre (1 point)
(c) a composer (1 point)
(d) a nationality (1 point)
(e) a decade (1 point)
(f) relevant, significant historical information or background (1 point)
(g) relevant, significant stylistic information (1 point)
