INTRODUCTION

Academic problems that students must deal with include homework, projects,
recitations, tests, quizzes, and many others. Their academic performance may be impacted by
this type of stress. Because they don’t want to receive a failing mark, they may not be
completely focused when working over their limitations to complete and submit it on time.
Some college students almost adopt stress as a way of life. However, it can be harmful for
students to allow stress to become their way of life in senior high school because extreme stress
levels can have catastrophic consequences that can ruin students’ lives and even cause them to
fail. Stress is inevitable, and unfortunately, it produces headache and neck cricks and causes
many health problems that include depression, anxiety, heart disease, and stroke (Clark, 2013).
However, to push students to study, stress is important. Therefore, to lessen the
detrimental consequences of stress on their performance and learning, students need to develop
coping mechanisms for their stress. Methods that lessen the negative effects of stress that
impede, or hamper students’ learning and performance are required. Giving students a sense of
control over their education, knowledge about what to expect, and feedback on what can be
done to enhance their performance are essential to lowering distress.
Stress is the "wear and tear" of student’s bodies caused by frequently changing
environments. It has physical and emotional effects. It can create positive or negative feelings.
A positive influence of stress can help and compel them to action; it can result in new
awareness and an exciting new perspective. Negative influence can result in feelings of distrust,
rejection, anger, and depression and lead to health problems such as headaches, high blood
pressure, heart disease, and stroke. Stress can help or hinder us depending on how we react to
(Boori, 2015).
Stress is a natural phenomenon in which internal or external pressures have an impact
on a person’s emotional, physical, or both states of being. When under stress, the person reacts
in ways that have an impact on both them and their surroundings. However, from a biological
perspective, stress can be a neutral, negative, or positive experience. Stress is tied to both
external and internal variables due to the overabundance of stress in modern life. The physical
environment, a person’s employment, interactions with people, their house, and all the
circumstances, problems, difficulties, and expectations they deal with daily are all considered
external influences. The body’s capacity to respond to and deal with external stress- inducing
situations is determined by internal elements.
The nutritional state, general health and fitness levels, mental well-being, and the
quantity of sleep and rest they get are all internalaspects that affect a person’s capacity to
handle stress. Teenagers and seniors in high school who are students also endure high
levels of stress from their families and peers. Students face the emotional roller coaster
every day, but most adults have forgotten what it was like to be under the stress that is
imposed on them. Stress in itspositive form, eustress, is necessary, healthy, and enjoyable.
However, the negative form, distress, can be damaging if left unmanaged.

Indeed, the body, feelings, thoughts, and behavior can all be impacted by
symptoms ofstress. Understanding typical stress symptoms might help you manage
them faster. Unmanagedstress can be a factor in many health issues, such as high
blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, and diabetes. According to Dwyer &
Cummings (2001), for a student, stress may be caused by a failure problem or the
loss of a family member or close friend. Such events that bring stress are called
stressors. A sudden change in life or stressors may affect one’s style of living or
even his or her physical and mental health. The impact a stressor leaves on a person
depends on how the person takes the tension.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the impacts of stress to


schoolworks of senior high school students in South East Asia Institute of Trade
and Technology. This study also aims to determine the level of the said variables.

Statement of the Problem


The objective of this study is to determine the impact of stress to schoolworks of
senior high school students in South East Asia Institute of Trade and Technology.

Specifically, it sought answer to the following problems:


1. What is the impact of stress to schoolworks of the respondents?
2. What is the level of stress of the respondents?
3. What is the level of schoolworks of the respondents?
4. Is there any significant effect between stress and schoolworks of the respondents?
Objective of the Study

This study aims to determine the impact of stress to schoolworks of senior high school
students in South East Asia Institute of Trade and Technology.
Specifically, it sought answer to the following problems:
1. To know the impact of stress to schoolworks of the respondents.
2. To know the level of stress of the respondents.
3. To know the level of schoolworks of the respondents.
4. To know if there is any significant effect between stress and schoolworks of the respondents.

Significance of the Study


The following list of other recipients and explanations includes:

Students. Through this research, students will have a greater understanding of their potential.
They need to be aware about the impact of stress to schoolworks. This study will help them to
understand the impact of stress negatively in their schoolworks.
Parents/Guardian. This study will assist them in better comprehension the strain their children
are under and may inspire them to consider how to raise their children correctly. Also, they need
to be aware about the impact of stress to schoolworks. This study will help them to understand the
impact of stress negatively in the schoolworks of their children.
Teachers. Educators will be attentive to how much homework they’ll hand out to their students
considering the possible repercussions. This study will help them to understand the impact of
stress negatively in their schoolworks.
School Administrator. Trough this study they will be able to understand how too much school
works can effect their students and learn positive ways to prevent or solve the given issue.
Future researchers. It shall serve as references to investigate more about how stress influences a
student’s performance. This study will help them to understand the impact of stress negatively in
their schoolworks. To make more valuable recommendation in the community.

Scope and limitation


The participants of this study were senior high school students of South East Asia
Institute of Trade and Technology. The concern of this study is to determine the impact of stress
to schoolworks.
In gathering data, quota sampling was used to collect the total size of one hundred (100)
respondents and randomly selected using stratified sampling. The researchers randomly got an
exact population of 50 from grades 11 and 50 from grade 12 from the different strands in each
section. The study was limited to the students whose ages ranges from 16 to 18 years old.
Lastly, the researchers also considered that the place of this study should be conducted at
South East Asia Institute of Trade and Technology located in Lot 1 Block, 9 Rose of Heaven Dr,
Las Piñas, 1747 Metro Manila.

Definition of terms
These following terms are defined according to this study. This may help future
researchersand readers to easily understand the meaning of these terms that will be used in
this study.
Schoolwork’s. It is characterized as a convergence of many motivational theories that
contend that emphasizing the value of a learning activity enhances students' performanceand
learning (Maarten et al., 2009).
Stress. Living things work to create and preserve the conditions that are best for their
wellbeing (Kamal et al., 2001).
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

This section reviews the research and literature that is relevant to the current study. There
were articles and studies from both the local and from foreign countries. These works
unquestionably played a significant role in developing the research question and its framework.

Stress . Living things work to create and preserve the conditions that are best for their
wellbeing (Kamal et al., 2001).
Stated that for a student, stress can be caused by failure,
financial problems, health problems, or the loss of a family member. It can affect a person's
lifestyle and physical and mental health, and can be dealt with within oneself by managing
feelings and stress. (Habibah, 2011).
stated that stress in students can lead to poor academic performance and a lack of
concentration. Studies have shown that it interferes with a student's ability to concentrate, but
it only lasts for a short time.(Essel and Owusu, 2017).
Posited that students can rest assured that there is a positive relationship between stress and
academic achievement. Teachers can understand that stress has a positive impact on a
students academic achievement, and stress does not always correlate negatively with
academic achievement. (Kumari and Gartia, 20120).

Schoolworks It is characterized as a convergence of many motivational theories that contend


that emphasizing the value of a learning activity enhances students' performanceand learning
(Maarten et al., 2009).
Before graduating from college, many students have a significant amount of work experience.
Since in-school work experience is not taken into account by conventional earning functions,
their estimations of the return to education take this into account. I estimate pay models with
and without adjustments for in-school work experience using data from the National
Longitudinal Survey of Youth. Depending on how I account for ability bias, the estimated
education coefficients are 25%–44% higher when in-school work experience is excluded than
when it is included. These results show that traditional models dramatically exaggerate the pay
effects of "school only." (Audrey Light, 2001).
There are a lot of reasons why educators mandatorily assigns homework to the students but to
make it short. They give homeworks to help the students grow up to their full potential. (Eric,
2009).
Schoolwork has been long applied to the educational community. It encourages students in a way
that helps awaken one's competitive side, but this can also have a significant negative effect on
them. (Jianzhong Xu, 2013).
The Impact of Stress to Schoolworks

Several studies have highlighted the negative relationship between stress and student
success (Flouri & Kallis, 2011). Furthermore, academic performance and stress exist in a
cyclical relationship, whereby increasing stress can negatively impact academic
performance and poor performance then contributes to increased stress (ACHA, 2009)

METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the methods and the procedures that the researchers employed to
identify and analyze the correlation of the The impact of stress to schoolworks of senior high
school students of South East-Asia Institute of Trade and Technology.

Research Design

In this study, The correlation research design was used. This is the most appropriate
designed to be used in this study since the researchers wanted to determine the relationship of the
impact of stress to schoolworks among the selected students of South East-Asia Institute of Trade
and Technology.

Gathering data from natural settings is what correlational research is about.


It offers preliminary evidence and supports hypotheses of casual partnerships. It can also be used
to assess if a tool is capable of capturing the concept it aims to measure. (Pritha Bhandari, 2021)

Hypothesis
In the light of these data presented, the researchers come up with these
null Hypothesis:
Ho1; there is no significant effect between stress and schoolworks of the respondents.

Sources of Data
The sources of data were gathered from books, dissertations, journals, articles and other
online resources that are discussing the said two variables: the impact of stress to schoolworks.

Research locale
The study was conducted at South East Asia Institute of Trade and Technology located in
Lot 1 Block, 9 Rose of Heaven Dr, Las Piñas, 1747 Metro Manila during the second semester of
said school year 2022 to 2023..

Participants of the study


The participants in this school are senior high school students of South East Asia Institute
of Trade and Technology ranging from 16-18 years of age wherein it is the adolescence to young
adulthood stage in Erikson’s stages of development.

Sampling size and technique


People often mistaken correlational research has two variables but a correlational
study's feature is neither the variable are manipulated. It has three main characteristic,
non-experimental, backward-looking, and dynamic. (Dan fleetwood, nd). The researchers
randomly got an exact population of 50 from grades 11 and 50 from grade 12 from the different
strands in each section. The study was limited to the students whose ages ranges from 16 to 18
years old.
