CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter covers the detailed explanation of methodology used to make this research flow
smoothly and complete accordingly. The chapter explains how the necessary data and information to
address the research objectives and questions shall be collected, presented and analyzed.

Research Design

The study utilized a descriptive correlational design in order to obtain the effectiveness between
Online and In-person learning and teaching of the third and fourth-year Mechanical engineering
students at PHINMA University of Pangasinan.

As a descriptive study, the researchers collected factual information to describe existing phenomena.
The researchers systematically informed the respondents about the situation of the study and the
importance of getting the required data factually and accurately. This study is correlational for it
demanded the degree to which the variables were related to each other using various statistical
instruments.

Locale of the Study

The study was conducted at PHINMA University of Pangasinan. The University is located along
Arellano Street, Dagupan City. The said school is home to the biggest population of students in the
entire Dagupan, thus the reason why the institution is chosen as the locale of the study. It is where the
respondents of the study are enrolled for S.Y. 2022-2023, where the survey took place.

Respondents of the Study

The respondents of the study were composed of 20 students in third and fourth-year
Mechanical Engineering Students in PHINMA University of Pangasinan. The respondents belong to the
course BSME which is primarily designed for the engineering degree. BSME stands for Bachelor of
Science in Mechanical Engineering. This course will develop the students‟ ability to evaluate simple to
complex societal problems and be responsive and active in the formulation of its solution through the
application and integration of scientific, technological, engineering, and mathematical concepts as it
prepares them to pursue the degree that focuses on the enigma of the natural world thereby leading
them to become future scientists, technological analysts and experts, engineers, mathematicians,
programmers, and the like.

Data Gathering Instrument

The researchers used the questionnaire for gathering data in determining the effectiveness
between Online and In-person learning and teaching of the third and fourth-year Mechanical
engineering students at PHINMA University of Pangasinan. The draft questionnaire was drawn out based
on the researcher’s reading, previous studies, and professional literature relevant to the study.

Data Gathering Procedure

The researchers asked permission from the research adviser, Engr. Justine Klyne Ramirez to
conduct the study. The researchers asked permission to all of the respondents from third to fourth-year
Mechanical Engineering students at PHINMA University of Pangasinan to be interviewed. Then the
researchers will collect the necessary data.

The gathering of data started after the instruments have been approved by the adviser. The
researchers distributed the questionnaires for the third and fourth-year BSME students in PHINMA
University of Pangasinan in order to gather the relevant data needed. The respondents were informed
about the nature of the study. They were given enough time to answer the questionnaire and the
informed consent of each respondent will be secured. The instruments in getting the data were
retrieved after the respondents finished answering the questionnaire.
