TITLE: Sensor based Automated Irrigation System with IOT: A technical Review
KEYWORDS NOTES

INTRODUCTION According to Kansara, K., Zaveri, V., Shah, S., Delwadkar, S., & Jani, K. (2015), 70% of farmers and the
general populace depend on agriculture as their primary source of income in India. The majority of
their irrigation systems are manually controlled.

Research Problem 1. Farmers experiencing difficulties due to lack of rain and water shortage (Kansara, K., Zaveri, V.,
Shah, S., Delwadkar, S., & Jani, K. 2015).
2. As mentioned by Kansara, K., Zaveri, V., Shah, S., Delwadkar, S., & Jani, K. (2015), the main
aspects of the global irrigation situation are the increasing demand for better agricultural output,
insufficient performance, and a decrease in the amount of water available for agriculture.

Research Aim To establish an automatic watering system so that farmers may save time, money, and energy (Kansara,
K., Zaveri, V., Shah, S., Delwadkar, S., & Jani, K. 2015).

Importance of Automatic 1. Simple and easy to install and configure.

Irrigation System as explained 2. The automation of farm or nursery irrigation would allow farmers to apply the appropriate
by Kansara, K., Zaveri, V., Shah, amount of water at the right time.
S., Delwadkar, S., & Jani, K. 3. Saves energy and resources to ensure efficient and sufficient use of them.
(2015). 4. It is an effective irrigation technique and a useful instrument for precise soil moisture control in
the production of highly specialized greenhouse vegetables.
5. Using controllers, it is simple to automate the ON and OFF motors, reducing the need for
manual work.

Methods - The water pump is connected to a pipe with a rain gun irrigation system, and the solenoid valve
controls the water flow. When the moisture level returns to normal, a sensor sends a signal to
the microcontroller, which closes the valve (Kansara, K., Zaveri, V., Shah, S., Delwadkar, S., &
Jani, K. 2015).
- The researchers used two GSM-connected cell phones with the MAX232 protocol to connect a
microcontroller and GSM. When the soil's moisture level drops, a moisture sensor detects it and
sends a signal to a microcontroller, which activates a buzzer to open the valve.
- Another methodology based on the study of Kansara, K., Zaveri, V., Shah, S., Delwadkar, S., &
Jani, K. (2015) is a wide base and is one of the most effective systems that has produced a
windows program to monitor the field. Wireless communication sensors that are installed in the
field allow for better facilitated sensor communication and cover a larger field area.

Research Design Quantitative

Samples Five in-field sensing stations distributed across the field were used by the researchers.

Results The base station transmits control signals back to the irrigation control station to individually run each
sprinkler and apply a set water depth based on the GPS coordinates of the sprinkler heads (Kansara, K.,
Zaveri, V., Shah, S., Delwadkar, S., & Jani, K. 2015).

Conclusion According to Kansara, K., Zaveri, V., Shah, S., Delwadkar, S., & Jani, K. (2015), to assist severe water
management for the agricultural area, the project was proposed. The system's microcontroller makes the
claim that by lowering power usage, the system's lifespan would rise. It is said to be utilized for enough
watering at cricket or golf stadiums, as well as in public gardens. The market for automated irrigation
systems is quite large and has a bright future. They may maximize their net profits in line with aspects like
sales, quality, and the growth of their product while saving time and removing human error in the process
(Kansara, K., Zaveri, V., Shah, S., Delwadkar, S., & Jani, K. 2015).
