This document provides instructions for an individual assignment in a statistical analysis course. Students are asked to formulate a research question involving quantitative variables from their area of interest, and select two variables that could be used to calculate a Spearman's correlation coefficient. They should then assume they have conducted this correlation and obtained a significant positive or negative result. The assignment requires reporting the mock finding, interpreting the effect size and R2 while considering issues like third variables and causality. It concludes by asking students to provide a business-focused conclusion and suggestions based on their results.

In this assignment, you will practice methods you learned in class for descriptive and inferential statistical analyses. The lecture slides and other sources on statistical analysis can help providing examples of how to report results of a correlation or inferential test. The expected outcome of this assignment is a four-page write-up. ASSIGNMENT: Formulate a simple research problem (question) from your area of interest and select a variable or variables that quantitatively measure the concept or concepts in the question. Explain the variables and the limitations of using the variables. Identify two variables for which you could calculate a Spearman’s correlation coefficient. Describe the variables and their scale of measurement. Now, assume you conducted a correlation and came up with a significant positive or negative value. Create a mock r value (for example, 0.3 or -0.2). Report your mock finding and interpret the statistic in terms of effect size and R2 while also taking into account the third variable problem as well as direction of causality. What can you conclude about your research question based on your results? Provide a clear conclusion in a business way of thinking; and provide suggestions to business decision makers based on the findings obtained.
