HOW TO READ A BLUEPRINT PLAN

The video was taken by Engr. Manny B. Lauresta on July 13, 2020 and talks about
how toread a Blueprint Plan or Architectural Plan. Within the video, he shares loads of
information like about the field of construction, how to read a blueprint, and different
kinds of plans. He also responds to frequently asked questions, mostly about how to
read a blueprint. Later, Engr. Lauresta started the video by mentioning three important
things about reading a blueprint. First, it is for the new generation of construction
workers. Second, for those people who want to learn something new. And third, to
share the knowledge of the General Public. These three things fascinate me as I indulge
more in the video.
Blueprint is a paper with thousands of detailed information about technical
drawing, squeezed into the paper because it shows the complete feature of a structure
to be built. Inside blueprint composes of Title Block, Index of Drawing, and Project
Officials. It also serves as a universal language in which most of the designs and pieces
of information are given for Engineers, Architects, Builders, Designers, and others. He
also stated that reading a blueprint is a process that gives meaning to the drawing, and
it must have an exact representation with exact measurement to avoid mistakes. In this
statement, I admit that he is right because it will cost a lot of money, time which is
essential today, and effort.
As I watched further into the video, I was overwhelmed by how complicated it is. I
almost got dizzy. I almost felt dizzy with so many lines and different symbols on a single
paper. I honestly have no idea where to start or how to read a plan. Later, he explained
everything, and I was shocked how he read it easily as if he was reading a book. He
clarifies that to read a plan, you must understand first about lines, symbol, and legends
because it plays an important role like reading the thickness of the walls, the different
kinds of doors will be use, roof plan, the roof plan, and many more. This helps me to
understand more about blueprint and illuminates me that everything inside the
blueprint is necessary.
In the latter part of the video, Engr. Manny Lauresta ended the video with a
saying “Let’s learn now to earn later” which I totally agree with because everything I’m
doing right now is for the future I wanted in my life. Everything, hardships, and
challenges I’m facing right now are stepsteppingstone to achieve the dream for myself,
to become a licensed Civil Engineer. Hence, I make sure that every single piece of
information and knowledge given by Engr. Lauresta today are stored in my mind to use
them someday.
