BOOK GROUP AS A SOCIAL WORK

Purpose:
• Book clubs promote a love of literature in a positive, nurturing
environment.
• The purpose of any club is to bring a community together to
learn about and discuss something that matters to them, and a
book club is no different.
Objectives

• Book clubs provide an opportunity for readers to share information and


the pleasure of reading.
• The main purpose of establishing book clubs is to encourage people to
read and share information.
• Book clubs promote a love of literature in a positive, nurturing
environment.
• The purpose of any club is to bring a community together to learn
about and discuss something that matters to them, and a book club is
no different.
• It also discovers important benefits of reading that will increase one's
motivation to read more.
Sample:
• According to age, we have divided the book group into three
primary groups. Juniors, Seniors, and Semi-Seniors.
• Senior Book Group:
• University students between the ages of 19 and 22 who are
students of the Sociology Department have joined the senior book
group. There are only 5 people chosen for this group, all of which
are female. The name mentioned below is as follows:
• Zoya
• Maryam
• Maira
• Irsa
• Zainab
• Semi Senior Group
• Most members of the semi-senior group are college and high
school students, and both boys and girls in this group must be
between the ages of 13 and 16, five students are chosen in this
group. These names are mentioned below:
• Yehya--- 1st year student
• Javeria--- 1st year student
• Yousuf--- 7th class student
• Khadija--- 7th class student
• Zakairya--- 6th class student
• Junior Book Group:
• Three children are chosen for the Junior group, which consists of
both boys and girls, students who are between the ages of 8
and 10. . These names are mentioned below:
• Areeba--- 5th class student
• Haider--- 5th class student
• Aliya--- 3rd class student
Session
• Group Session 1:
• Seniors were introduced to the book
Forty Rules of Love during this session.
The discussion was joined by all five
participants, as well as the group
coordinators. Only one coordinator
was not present. This event took place
in the library, where we got good
feedback on the book and plenty of
people shared their experiences after
reading some of the sections.
Unexpectedly, two listeners came
along for the session as well.

Senior Book Group Session 1:


• Semi-Seniors were introduced to
the book “The Knights of Hawthorn
Crescent” during this session. The
discussion was joined by all five
participants, as well as the group
coordinators. Two coordinator
were not present. Reviews and
discuusion were doneon the book,
in which Yahya and Javeria
reviews were appreciated and
oters as well. The session 1 ended
in good note. The participant
improved in their vocabulary and
enjoyed the book as well.

Semi-Senior Book Group Session 1:


• Juniors were introduced to
the book during this session.
The discussion was joined by
2/3 participants, as well as the
group coordinators. The
participants (studenst)
introduced themselves as well
the coordinators did. This
session was held on 30th
October through zoom class.
Discussions and the guidelines
were shared with participants
and according to there
recommendation the Session 1
of this group discussion will be
held on 12th November 2022.

Juniors Book Group Session 1


Outcome/Result Of Session 1
• Develops stronger vocabulary
• Build connections between the spoken and written word
• Provides enjoyment
• Increases attention span
• Strengthens cognition
• Provides a safe way of exploring strong emotions
• Promotes bonding
• Sharing knowledge and opinions
• Love for books increases
• The expected results will be shown after the end of the session 1 but so far
following are the points which we noticed in 3 different books Groups. The
progress and activities taking place are very helpful and it leads to the success
of this Group. The session 1 will end on 15th Nov as expected by the
coordinators.
