RADIO OPERATOR

Lewa Wildlife Conservancy (Lewa), based in Isiolo Kenya, is an organization that works as a catalyst and a model for the
conservation of wildlife and its habitat. We invite applications for the position of Radio Operator. Reporting to Senior Radio
Operator, the overall responsibility of this position will be to serve as the centre of communication at LWC, by effectively and
accurately operating communication equipment in the radio room.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

a) Efficient and accurate recording of updates on wildlife given by the field patrol rangers.
b) Monitoring and controlling radio communication systems and informing the control room supervisor of any potential
adverse activities noticed.
c) Receiving all emergency signals, messages, and alarms and relaying the messages to the relevant parties.
d) Preparing daily situation reports and sharing them with the relevant people.
e) Ensuring that the security records are up to date.
f) Ensuring that the wildlife tracking screen in the ops room is properly working.
g) Checking with all the tourist facilities on the number of resident clients on a daily basis.
h) Efficient in security database management.

Job Specifications
The job holder must possess:

 Certificate in communication;
 A minimum of D+ in KCSE;
 At least one-year experience in a similar role;
 Specialized training in handling radio operation activities;
 Certificate of good conduct;
 Computer literate;
 Good command of spoken English and Swahili;
 Ability to work under pressure;
 Ability to think on your feet, remain calm and assertive, and assist in whatever situation;
 Knowledge of geography and calculating distance.
