UA and Urine CS

Nursing Care:

*Priority : Treat the infection

-Cystitis

Symptoms:

*Same as urethritis + cloudy, dark foul smelling urine

*hematuria, abdominal discomfort

*Incomplete bladder emptying, bladder spasm

--Elderly *Confusion

Risk Factors:

*Pregnant and sexually active with multiple partners

Diagnostics:

*UA and Urine C/S

Nursing Care:

*Same as urethritis + Sterile catheter, antispasmodic, sitz bath

*Avoid alcohol, cola, coffee and tea

-Pyelonephritis

-Acute Pyelonephritis : occurs after untreated UTI

-Chronic: urine obstruction with reflux

Symptoms:

APN *same as cystitis + CVA(costovertebral angle) tenderness

(flank pain), pyuria, tachycardia, tachypnea, nausea and headache

CPN *slow but progressive-- kidney injury

*frequent hypertension, pyuria, azotemia, proteinuria


*poor urine concentration

Nursing Care:

*Priority :Antibiotic: Bactrim

*Increased OFI, antipyretic and anti-emetic

Complications

*Sepsis

*Shock
