Global Warming: a Foreboding Foe

We humans have wrecked havoc since the beginning of our existence,

as we are slowly consuming what the earth has to offer. Our measly greed
has thus forsaken our generous benefactor, for ecosystems and natural
assets are collapsing. Nevertheless, we are slowly reaping what we sow.
Consequences like climate change, global warming, ozone depletion, and
pollution are surfacing. Global warming, which is the gradual heating of the
Earth’s surface, oceans, and atmosphere, has especially become more
intense over the years. Its manifestation has many deplorable causes and
several hazardous effects.

Global warming leaves the planet with devastating effects. One of the
most immediate and obvious effects of global warming is the increase in
temperature around the world. The average global temperature has increased
by about 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit over the past 100 years, according to the
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Since record keeping
began in 1895, the hottest year on record worldwide was 2016, according to
NOAA and NASA. Global warming thus causes an increase in the global
temperature.

The aftermath of global warming has many different manifestations. The

effects of global warming on the Earth’s ecosystems are expected to be
profound and widespread. Many species of plants and animals are already
moving their range northward or to higher altitudes as a result of warming
temperatures, according to a report from the National Academy of Sciences.
Warmer temperatures will also expand the range of many disease-causing
pathogens that were once confined to tropical areas, killing off plant and
animal species that formerly were protected from these diseases. Global
warming thus issues many alarming results and effects.

In conclusion, global warming has far-reaching, long-lasting, and devastating

consequences for our planet, as it already has a measurable effect on it.
Human interference with the natural resources of our earth must be thwarted.
Steps must be taken to limit global warming, and that includes: fossil fuel
divestment, tropical forest protection, and regional climate action. That is,
before it is too late.
