Day 4
Day 4
Unpacking MELCs is a very crucial step in determining the specific competencies that we
want our learners to achieve. In this session, attendees were group per subjects. They determined
the most essential competencies for each lesson per quarter for each subject. They presented it
and was critiqued by the Master Teacher involved. The attendees followed the different steps in
unpacking competencies such as identifying key concepts and skills, identifying learning target
types, determining big ideas and writing essential questions. Some teachers were asked to
present their outputs in front and feedback were provided after their presentation.
The attendees should always use the MELCs as a guide in determining the progress of the
students. It should always guide them in preparing their summative tests and performance tasks.
Moreover, this will help the teachers in efficiently assessing the students. Most importantly,
MELCs will serve as the basis if your students are performing well by comparing their actual
performance with the set standards that they need to achieve.
The attendees have gained insight in the steps in unpacking the MELCs. Furthermore, they
have also learned that the competencies should be their basis in creating their assessment,
whether it is formative or summative. Consequently, this leads them to provide better assessment
that will really gauge the performance of the learners in different topics and subjects.
Job well done teachers! Continue striving for the betterment of our school and education.
