INTRODUCTION

When we were told that we would be doing a work experience or an OJT at Hospicio de San
Jose, working with babies, sick people, and the elderly, we discovered that it would be difficult.
All of our difficulties vanished after our first day there. Every day for 14 days, we made our way
to work. We were terrified of meeting new people and trying to act mature in an unfamiliar
environment. We arrived at Hospicio de San Jose and within ten minutes of meeting our new
colleagues, all of our worries vanished. Of course, some of the elderly patients were terrified
because their illness can cause them to be aggressive, which means we must always be aware
that they can be violent and may harm or attack us. We had to concentrate on the task at hand.
Our abilities grew as our week at Hospicio de San Jose progressed. We gained confidence in the
tasks at hand. We learned during our week there that old people are not just those invisible
people we don't see on the streets or on public transportation because we never pay attention
to them.  It only took a week for us to get to know these people, and they realize that they
were once young like us and probably never expected to be in a nursing home because, like us,
they believe that what we do today and tomorrow will have long-term consequences. The
people we met in the nursing home should be cared for to the best of our abilities. They were
once a meaningful contributor to society.

I could very well define our time at Rendu and Elderly ward as incredibly thankful
because we will be given the opportunity to assist people with special needs and
care for them in a relatively short amount of time.

Thank you so much, God Bless!
