Rustenburg – Drivers of a delivery truck were robbed of
their money after stopping at the Engen Rudan 1 Stop
garage on Tuesday 9 May 2023.
The incident occurred at around 09:42 in the morning,
according to the manager of the garage.
“The truck drove in and then the VW Polo also arrived
and parked in front of the truck,” the manager explained
to Platinum Weekly.
“Three people got out of the Polo and pushed the drivers
out and robbed them of their money. They were all wearing
balaclavas,” he added. “I am not sure what the drivers were
delivering but they had empty bottles of cooldrink at the
back of their vehicle. The robbery incident happened very
quickly,” he explained. The incident has been reported to
the police.
Police spokesperson sergeant Ofentse Mokgadi said
the white VW Polo was also spotted on the same day
at Medicross Clinic, at the corner of President Mbeki
Drive and Von Weillig Street, during a robbery of another
delivery vehicle driver. “According to the victim, she was
delivering medication packages to the hospital when three
armed suspects approached her,” Mokgadi said.
“It is further alleged that the suspects, who were all wearing
masks and gloves, ransacked the delivery truck, and then
realised that the items were mostly medication,” he added,
“The suspects took one package which they thought was
not medication, and fled the scene. The suspects were
travelling in a white VW Polo, registration: KRX 631 NW,”
Mokgadi explained. Police are also investigating a case of
armed robbery.

Together in the fight against crime
Rustenburg - In March of this year, an Audi belonging to
a Garsfontein resident was stolen while the owner was out
of the country. Fortunately, the car was recovered with the
help of vigilant citizens, neighbourhood watch members,
and law enforcement in Rustenburg on Friday 5 May 2023.
The car was discovered missing by a neighbour who
was watering her plants. The stolen vehicle was caught
on camera on the highway heading towards Rustenburg.
The alarm was raised, and messages were sent out to
security groups in the area. A citizen who saw the car and
two suspicious individuals in Zendeling Street called in the
tip-off. Several patrol groups responded and kept a lookout
until the police arrived. The suspects, Johannes Jonker and
Sumarie Stevens, were taken into custody, and the car was
recovered by the police. Rustenburg police spokesperson,
Sergeant Ofentse Mokgadi, confirmed the incident and the
arrest of the suspects. Both individuals appeared before the
Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court on 8 May, where their case
was transferred to Pretoria for a burglary charge.
This incident highlights the importance of the community’s
involvement in preventing and solving crimes. When
citizens and law enforcement work together, they can make
a significant difference in ensuring the safety and security
of their neighbourhoods.

the band with his rap, backing vocals, keyboard, and bass playing,
while Given, who is an engineer, supports the band with his backing
vocals and keyboard. The band’s main goal is to spread their message
of standing up against gender-based violence in their music. They
believe that life is temporary, and there is no point in hating what
God has created. PGG started performing in church, weddings, and
parties, and grew up listening to Reggae and Jimmy Swaggart’s
gospel songs. They are particularly fond of the gospel song ‘Living
Waters’ and enjoyed listening to Bob Marley’s ‘One Love,’ Lucky
Dube’s ‘Together as One,’ and Mango Groove’s ‘Special Star’.

and the Nyoka Ridge Vulture Restaurant in the Hekpoort area. It
is situated at the foot of the Magaliesberg Mountain. It is a private
feeding station for the endangered Cape Vulture, managed
by BirdLife Harties. This outing is a rare opportunity to see and
photograph these interesting birds feeding and flying up close.

was both a fun and challenging day for
members of the Rustenburg Cycling
Club (RCC).
RCC cyclists competed in the Race to
the Sun which is a 160km journey from
Hartbeestpoort Dam to Sun City.
A big well done to Mornè du Plessis
for completing the race in 7h29min,
Nolte Ekkerd (6h10min), Dawie Jacobs
(9h43min), Thys Steyn (9h43min),
Jannie van der Westhuizen (6h53min),
Julie Boshoff (6h55min) as well as
Michele Birks and Johan van der Merwe
(08h16min).
Rustenburg – The Rustenburg Ladies
will be aiming to continue their goal-
scoring trend when they face Tswelelang
De’Scorpion at Lefaragatlha on Saturday
13 May 2023.
A win for the Rustenburg Ladies will see
them moving to second position on the
Sasol North West Stream B log standings.
In their previous match, the Rustenburg
Ladies bagged a 9-1 win over Golden
Ladies on 6 May. They are looking for
another victory in their fourth match of the
season. A win will enhance their chances
of eventually winning the league title, after
finishing in second position last season.
However, their opponents will not be an
easy nut to crack. Tswelelang De’Scorpion
have won both the matches they have
played thus far and will definitely be
shooting for a third win!
Klerksdorp on Saturday 6 May 2023.
It was Impala’s third victory in as many matches in the Leopards Provincial League which
means that they have now amassed a total of 15 points.
The win, achieved in difficult ‘away’ conditions, also means that Impala is still on top of the
log standings.
Two tries from Charlton Scholtz laid the foundation for victory in a match where Impala had to
fend off a spirited challenge from their opponents. Omphile Butsi and Johan Visagie scored
the other tries while Trevor Visser managed three conversions to set up the win.
With a good start to their league campaign, Impala is not basking in victory yet, as the club is
aware of the long road that still lies ahead.
“We need to go back to the drawing board because next up, we have another tough game
against Welkom Rovers at Impala Rugby Club,” said Club manager Trevor Visser. “We are
calling on all our supporters and their families to come and cheer us to victory,” Visser added.
Meanwhile, Impala’s second team, which lost 38-12 to the Klerksdorp second team, will be
aiming for better fortunes in their match against Welkom.
The match between Impala and Klerksdorp was a
closely contested one.

Rugby Club’s women’s team have made
Rustenburg proud.
Esethu Jebese, Chantel Maakwe, Melissa
Huyser, and Jo-Anne Grobler—key players
of the Vixens—have been included in the
47-member Leopards women senior rugby
team for the 2023 season.
The Leopards team is the provincial team
representing the North West province, and
the selection of the four players confirms that
they are amongst the best on the local front.
The team will take part in the inter-provincial
first division league of SA Rugby which starts
on 10 June 2023 until 5 August 2023. The
team will practice every Tuesday, Thursday,
and Saturday if there are no matches.
