competitions from Thursday 23 March 2023 to
Tuesday 4 April 2023. In the first lucky draw 40
customers won hampers which included Three Star
Powertrade’s house brand products. For those with
a sweet tooth, there were 20 sweet hampers worth
R500 up for grabs. Additionally, customers had the
opportunity to enter the Smartphone Lottery, and
could win daily giveaways until 4 April.
Three Star’s directive to give back and boost
the community was also illustrated on 25 March
when one lucky customer won a brand new Suziki
S-Presso.
To have been eligible for the draw, valued
customers had to purchase three participating
brands from October 2022 until 4 March 2023 and
had to fill an entry form.
At Three Star’s premises, Pastors opened the
handover with prayer and selected five entry forms
from a box, whereafter the chosen entrants went on
stage, and each selected a plastic egg. Karabelo
Mokgoshi was ecstatic after she opened her egg
and was revealed as the winner of the Suziki
S-Presso! “This has been a great day!” cheered
Karabelo. Karabelo along with several customers
also won hampers which included products from
the participating brands. Runners-up did not walk
away empty-handed as other prizes included a
pressure cooker, a generator, a plasma TV, and
a trolly filled with groceries valued at R5,000.
On the 17th of March, an exquisite cheese
and wine evening was hosted for Rustenburg’s
educators at Three Star’s east-end premises.
Educators who attended the ambient event had
the opportunity to engage with representatives of
Three Star Powertrade, where a glimpse of Three
Star’s upcoming school projects was given. Now

3 TAVERNS ROBBED IN TWO DAYS

Phokeng/ Rustenburg – Three taverns were
robbed during separate incidents reported in
Rasimone as well as in the Kgale and Pitso areas
of Phokeng.
Cases of business robbery and attempted murder
are being investigated by the police, who have
not ruled out the possibility that the implicated
suspects could be linked to all three incidents.
Police spokesperson sergeant Ofentse Mokgadi
said that the first incident occurred in Rasimone
on Saturday 22 April at around 00:30 in the
morning.
“Two armed suspects got out of a white Audi
sedan with unknown registration plates and held
the tavern’s patrons and owner at gunpoint,”
Mokgadi said, “The owner tried to fight them off,
but one suspect fired a shot in the air and forced
the owner to cooperate. All patrons were ordered
to lie down, and their cellphones and money were
taken from them,” Mokgadi added.
The suspects then instructed the tavern’s cashier
to take them to the office where they took cash
and bottles of whisky before driving away from the
scene using a vehicle belonging to the owner of
the tavern. Later, the vehicle was discovered in
Mafenya.
Mokgadi said that the suspects involved in the
second incident on Saturday evening 22 April at a
tavern in Kgale used the same method as the one
used in the first.
“Early on Sunday 23 April, at round 01:00,
suspects also shot at patrons in a tavern Pitso
and injured five of the patrons,” Mokgadi further
explained. “The victims of the shooting were all
taken to hospital and are in serious but stable
conditions,” he added.
Police are still investigating to establish more
facts related to all three incidents.

OCCUPANTS ATTACKED ON SMALLHOLDING

Rustenburg – Two women and a young girl were
attacked on their smallholding located on the R104
outside Rustenburg in the early hours of Wednesday
26 April 2023. The attack occurred when three
assailants gained access to their home by breaking
open the front door. The women and young girl
were home at the time of the attack and were
caught off guard by the sudden intrusion. One
of the women heard a commotion coming from a
room and went to investigate. Unfortunately, she
was met by one of the attackers who proceeded
to stab her in the hand. The other two occupants

commemorated the 2023 Smile Week, an
annual event held between Monday 17 April and
Sunday 23 April 2023. During this week a series

with facial deformities had been conducted. The
surgeries were successfully carried out at the
Klerksdorp/Tshepong Hospital Complex (KTHC)
on eleven (11) children born with cleft lip and
palate. These procedures brought the number
of children who had undergone reconstructive
surgery to thirteen (13) as two had undergone
the same procedure in June last year. According

which were performed were referrals following
the success of the two operations which were
performed in the North West province in 2022.

More than a vegetable garden
Rustenburg – A community member living in the
Dienie Estates settlement allocated a piece of
land on his property to the Rustenburg Hospice.
This garden is being utilised to plant vegetables
and is being tended to by patients who receive
home-based care.
Platinum Weekly had the opportunity to visit the
garden on Friday 14 April 2023.
The vegetable garden has recently been
harvested and is currently being prepared for
the next planting season. Recently plucked bean
bushes and beetroot are all that remain of the
successful harvest.
Seedlings are bought from local street vendors,
nurseries, and hardware shops, and planted
according to season. There is also a JoJo tank
on the property to ensure that the garden gets
enough water.
Although the garden is not very large, it has
provided more than enough food for those
tending to it. However, the aim of the garden is
for it to provide more than nourishment. “It keeps
the elderly active and gives them a purpose.
Every Wednesday, the hospice gathers everyone
together and they sit and talk and it’s more
like a support group. They also have a pastor
who comes and ministers to them,” said the

that a hospice is just a place where people go to
finish their remaining years, but we do so much
more than that. We provide palliative care, which
is specialised medical care for people living with
a serious illness. Often families don’t know how to
take care of elderly family members, so we also
educate them and help them where needed.”
The Rustenburg Hospice also has trained helpers
who check in with their patients daily. These
helpers take the patients’ blood pressure, make
sure they have taken their medication, and
assess their general well-being. Depending on
the circumstances, most of these services are
provided at no cost.
The hospice vegetable garden is a great way to
engage with the patients and provide not only
medical support, but also emotional support.
You can support this project by donating seeds
and seedlings, or by supporting the Rustenburg
Hospice’s fundraising projects and charity shops.
Any donations of shade netting and gardening
equipment are also welcomed.

Mogwase - The Moses Kotane Local Municipality
unveiled the second batch of its service delivery
fleet, led by Mayor Cllr Nketu Nkotswe, SingleWhip
Cllr Caroline Motshabi, Corporate Support Services
Portfolio Head Cllr. Dithothi Tshetlhane and EXCO
member Cllr. Madisha.
The unveil activity included presence of Municipal
drivers who were reminded to be adamant in abiding
by the municipal code of conduct, which aims to
safeguard these fleet cars for a long period while also
providing services to the public.
These various vehicles will help various departments,
for instance: - TLB front loaders for service delivery,
water trucks to provide water in villages, crew cabs
to make sure our meter reader teams and general
workers for the water system go onsites, and lastly
some vehicles to support corporate service in
daily operations leading to one municipal strategic
objective. In conclusion, these fleet’s sorely purpose is
to heighten services to the communities, so the council
will impose strict accountability for each vehicle.
